"I am incredibly grateful and proud of this special moment at my club, Borussia Dortmund. I have spent more than half my life at this club and have enjoyed every day, though of course there have also been difficult moments," the 34-year-old player stated in comments provided by the club on Friday, where he also took the opportunity to thank the fans "for their support over the years."

The midfielder played in the club's youth ranks from 1995 until early 2005 and returned to Borussia Dortmund from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2012. He has played 424 matches to date, with 168 goals and 128 assists, and he served as captain from 2018 to 2023.

In his record, Reus has won two German Cups and two German Super Cups and reached the Champions League final in 2013 against Bayern Munich, where they were defeated 2-1.

Looking ahead, the player aims for Borussia to finish in the top five in the league standings, which grants access to Europe's top competition, and most importantly, dreams of securing the club's second Champions League title as they are one step away from the final after defeating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the first leg of the semi-finals.
