Elyaz Zidane is set to leave Real Madrid and join Real Betis.
Zinedine Zidane’s fourth son travelled to Seville on Wednesday, where he finalised a deal to join the Andalusian club until 2026.
The Frenchman, born in Marseille in 2005, can play at centre-back and left-back. He will play for Juvenil División de Honor team and Betis Deportivo — four and two levels respectively below Betis’ first team.
Elyaz — who is named Elyaz Fernández, his mother’s surname, on Real Madrid’s website — arrived at Valdebebas in 2013, but the lack of opportunities in Álvaro Arbeloa’s Juvenil A team this season made him ask for a move at the end of 2023.
Real Madrid have facilitated a transfer, although they keep — as they always do — some power over Elyaz’s future, in this case by retaining a minor percentage of his rights.
One of the player’s objectives is to gain more minutes ahead of France U-19s’ UEFA Elite Round mini-tournament in March and the European Championship in July.
Elyaz’s impending departure will leave only one of Zidane’s sons at Real Madrid — Theo.
The Real Madrid Castilla midfielder renewed his contract last summer until June 2024, as revealed by The Athletic.
His progression since the end of last season has made him a permanent fixture for Raúl this season, being the fifth player with the most minutes (1,294).
