Jordan Pickford believes Everton have turned a corner and is confident the side can kick on following the international break.

The Blues earned their first point of the Premier League season away to Sheffield United last time out, with the England international producing a crucial double stop in the final seconds of a tightly-fought contest at Bramall Lane.

Speaking to the Mirror, the goalkeeper said: "We have turned the corner. Apart from the Aston Villa game, the other three fixtures were very close and we were in control of the Sheffield United game. We have only one point on the board but we can build on it."

Pickford's England face Scotland in a special anniversary match to mark the first time they face their neighbours 150 years ago.

Should he start, Pickford will earn his 56th cap for his nation and expects a tough match away at Hampden Park on Tuesday night.

"It will be competitive against a side in good form," he added.

"You want that competition if you haven’t got qualifiers, you want to be in matches you can learn from and get something out of, going into hostile crowd, different football experiences, things you should thrive off."

Pickford's Blues teammate Amadou Onana, meanwhile, has received praise during the break from domestic action.

Quoted in SportWitness, former Belgium defender Philippe Albert said: "Physically, Amadaou is a monster and technically he also has quality."

Onana helped secure three points for his nation over the weekend with a 1-0 win over Azerbaijan that took Belgium top of group F on goal difference.

The Belgian media reacted to Saturday's win with DH Les Sports applauding the 22-year-old midfielder's contribution to the national side.

They believe Onana is "becoming more and more essential in the national side."
