India's debutants Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel failed to impress with the bat during the first T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare. While Abhishek departed for a four-ball duck, Parag scored two runs and Jurel departed for six. Abhishek Sharma's debut was one he would prefer to forget. Coming in with high expectations, Abhishek faced Brian Bennett in the opening over. Abhishek's attempt to pull Bennett's short-pitched delivery was a risky choice, especially so early in his innings.

The ball's bounce and pace were well-executed, making it difficult for the Indian opener to control the shot. As a result, his mistimed effort led to an easy catch for Masakadza, marking a disappointing start to his international career. Abhishek mistimed his effort, sending the ball high into the air towards deep mid-wicket. Wellington Masakadza showcased his athleticism, running a few yards forward to complete a brilliant catch. Abhishek had to depart for a duck, a rare and disappointing start for the young batter.

Riyan Parag also had a tough time on his debut. Facing Tendai Chatara, Parag attempted to break the shackles with an aggressive shot. Chatara's delivery, a length ball on off-stump, had its pace cleverly reduced, deceiving Parag. Aiming to clear mid-on, Parag found himself unable to control the shot as it struck high on the blade, and the ball lobbed towards mid-off where substitute fielder Brandon Mavuta made no mistake, securing the catch. Parag's brief innings ended with just 2 runs off 3 balls. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel was caught out by Wesley Madhevere off a delivery from Jongwe. Attempting to drive a slower, full delivery through extra cover, Jurel mistimed his shot, resulting in a low catch to the short cover fielder. This dismissal, where Jurel scored 7 runs off 14 balls, further compounded India's difficulties in the game.
