India vs Bangladesh, 1st Test: Fast bowler Akash Deep picked two wickets in successive deliveries in his second over of the Test match in Chennai. Bowling coach Morne Morkel was thrilled to see the young pacer's success on Friday.

India's fast bowlers were breathing fire in the first session on Day 2 of their first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai on Friday. After Jasprit Bumrah knocked Shadman Islam's off-stump in the first over of the Bangladesh innings, young pacer Akash Deep added to the visiting team's woes by picking two wickets in successive deliveries in his second over.

Akash Deep, coming around the wicket, got the wickets of Zakir Hasan (15) and former captain Mominul Haque (0). The Bengal pacer kept it simple as he brought the ball in with the angle of his delivery and rattled the stumps.

Bowling coach Morne Morkel, in his first assignment for Team India, was thrilled to bits as he was seen praising Akash Deep's efforts from the dressing room. Coach Gautam Gambhir also had a smile on his face, expressing his delight at the performance of the Indian pacers in the first session on Friday.

Bangladesh were reduced to 26 for 3, trailing India by 350 runs at Lunch on Day 2 of the Chennai Test.

Akash Deep repaid the faith shown in him by the selectors and the team management as he was on the money in his first spell with the ball in the two-match Test series. The 27-year-old made his Test debut for India earlier in the year against England in a five-Test series at home. He got his maiden cap in the fourth Test of that series in Ranchi and made an immediate impact, picking up three wickets in the first innings. Akash made way for Jasprit Bumrah in the fifth Test of that series, but the selectors persisted with the pacer for the Bangladesh series, the first of India's new home season.

Akash Deep was in good form in he only Duleep Trophy match he played earlier in September, picking up nine wickets, including a five-wicket haul, for India A against India B at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

India picked three pacers in Bumrah, Akash and Mohammed Siraj for the first Test and two spinners in R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Earlier in the match, India posted 376 after recovering from 144 for 6, thanks to a 199-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Ashwin and Jadeja. Ashwin went on to hit his sixth Test hundred while Jadeja missed his hundred by just 14 runs.
