Manchester United’s Christian Eriksen was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches after a crunching tackle from Andy Carroll.

Eriksen left the 3-1 FA Cup win over Reading in the 57th minute, making way for Fred who scored United’s third goal.

The call to replace him by Erik ten Hag came after former Liverpool, West Ham and Newcastle striker Carroll flew into the Dane, but wasn’t booked.

A nine-time capped England international, Carroll then went on to pick up two separate yellows shortly after, and received his marching orders in the 65th minute.

It’s so far unknown how long Eriksen will be out of action for, but multiple images from fans outside the ground captured him using two crutches and a protective boot on his left foot.

His manager was asked about the injury post-match, and said: “It’s always difficult to say shortly after the game finishes.

“It’s the ankle. We’ll have to see the diagnoses.

“It will be at least 24 hours before we know that and then I can say more.”

Eriksen joined United as a free agent during the summer after a six-month stint at Brentford, where he returned to action after his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

Any spell on the sidelines will come as a blow to Ten Hag, who has used Eriksen more than any other player at United.

The 30-year-old has made 31 appearances this season in all competitions, scoring two goals and registering nine assists.
