Aston Villa predicted lineup for season opener vs Newcastle United

Aston Villa made headlines by securing seventh place in the 2022-23 Premier League points table. The second half of the season was tremendous for Unai Emery’s men where they went 10 games unbeaten at one point. Securing the UEFA Europa Conference League qualification was a huge achievement for the club and a just reward.

Now, heading into the 2023-24 season, Aston Villa is making strong strides in the transfer market. With players like Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby and more coming into the fold, it will be interesting to see how the Villans take the field.

To that end, here is the Aston Villa predicted lineup for season opener against Newcastle in Premier League 2023-24 season:

GK – Emiliano Martinez

Emiliano Martinez has to be the first name on the team sheet. The World Cup-winning custodian is an integral part of Aston Villa’s ambitions and keeps attackers at bay with his sensational shot-stopping ability.

RB – Matty Cash 

Matty Cash’s pre-season form is encouraging for Aston Villa fans. He scored recently in a friendly against Brentford in a 3-3 draw. The full-back loves to make darting runs forward and contribute to the attack, which makes him dangerous and vital to the team.

CB – Pau Torres

Pau Torres was an important acquisition for Unai Emery. The left-footed centre-back will play his first season in the Premier League and showed good form in pre-season as well. His partnership with Konsa will be interesting to witness.

CB – Ezri Konsa

Ezri Konsa takes his place in the heart of defence alongside Pau Torres. The centre-back is brilliant at winning aerial duels and is also a threat in the opposition box during corners. Unai Emery trusts the 25-year-old to forge a strong partnership with Torres.

LB – Alex Moreno

Alex Moreno is the first choice in the left-back position. Fans are excited to see him in action as he recovers from a hamstring injury ahead of the new season. His life at Aston Villa got off to a strong start and is likely to stay the course.

CM – Boubacar Kamara

Boubacar Kamara has established himself as one of the finest holding midfielders in the Premier League last term. The midfielder is crucial to Aston Villa as he provides cover to the defence and makes key ball recoveries and interceptions to break up opposition attacks.

ST – Ollie Watkins
Watkins scored 15 goals in the league last term

Ollie Watkins is one of the players to watch out for in the Premier League’s 2023-24 campaign. The striker leads Aston Villa’s forward line with conviction. He scored 15 goals in the league and provided six assists as well in the previous campaign.
