Barcelona have confirmed that French defender Clement Lenglet has signed for Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan.

Here’s Barça’s statement on the deal:

FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have reached an agreement for the loan of the French defender Clément Lenglet until 30 June 2025. There is no option of a permanent transfer.

The defender moves after signing a new contract at Barcelona that now runs until 2027 in a move that helps spread the cost and comply with FFP rules.

Lenglet will now continue his career back in La Liga with Atletico after spells in the Premier League with both Tottenham and Aston Villa.

It’s been an interesting summer for Atletico who have also brought in Julian Alvarez and Conor Gallagher as well as offloading Joao Felix to Chelsea.

Lenglet will be hoping he can play some regular football with Diego Simeone’s side and make an impact after a tricky few years for the Frenchman.

The center-back had been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia but had no interest in heading to the Middle East and will play in Madrid instead.
