Panhandle cities file to suspend Atmos Energy rate increase
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Some Texas Panhandle cities have filed a resolution to suspend Atmos Energy’s rate increase start date.
The cities that filed the resolution are part of the “Cities Served by Atmos Energy West Texas Coalition.”
Atmos Energy says it filed for a 10% percent increase to residents’ monthly bills.
“The filing reflects an average increase across the entire West Texas system of approximately $17 per month for a typical residential customer, and $24 per month for the typical commercial customer,” said Atmos Energy.
The City of Canyon takes part in the coalition and filed for a resolution to suspend the start date of Dec. 19 of this year. Negotiations are in the process.
“We look forward to working with the Railroad Commission of Texas and all our stakeholders throughout the entire process,” said Atmos Energy.
The City of Dalhart says they do not have plans to file at this time.
Both the cities of Amarillo and Channing will introduce the resolution at next week‘s City Council and Commissioners’ Court meetings.
