Vincent Kompany’s inaugural Bundesliga match as a manager was full of fireworks. Bayern Munich took the lead, played from behind, then scored a late game winner to earn three points on the road.
Facing adversity is part of the sports experience, but a coach doesn’t really know how his team will respond until things go poorly. Also important, Bayern’s hard-fought won occurred under the pressure of 30,000 screaming Wolfsburg fans.
In his postgame interview (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Kompany acknowledged “it’s great how in Germany the players go to the fans after that end of the game. You take time to enjoy that moment. We had that today and in the game in Ulm as well. You don’t have that in every league. It’s something special in Germany.”
As a savvy veteran himself, the raucous crowd wasn’t new to Kompany. But he’s showing a newfound appreciation for the impressive atmosphere with each passing match in Germany.
