Bursa Malaysia ends morning session higher

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 21): Bursa Malaysia ended the morning trading session marginally better on Tuesday, as buying interest emerged in selected heavyweights, in tandem with the mostly higher regional markets.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 3.35 points to 1,460.27, from Monday’s closing of 1,456.92.

The barometer index opened 1.21 points higher at 1,458.13 and thereafter moved between 1,456.16 and 1,461.24 throughout the session.

The market breadth was positive, with gainers leading decliners 413 to 361, while 431 counters were unchanged, 1,169 untraded and nine others suspended.

Turnover amounted to 1.98 billion units, valued at RM930.41 million.

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said in a note that positive catalysts from the strong Wall Street performance overnight may provide trading opportunities for at least the near term.

Nevertheless, the focus will also be on the ongoing corporate earnings reporting season, it added.

Among the heavyweights, Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) added two sen to RM9.13, Public Bank Bhd gained six sen to RM4.27, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) rose three sen to RM10, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd added one sen to RM5.78, while Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd was flat at RM7.20.

Of the actives, Hong Seng Consolidated Bhd and Widad Group Bhd were unchanged at three sen and 46 sen respectively, Leform Bhd lost two sen to 27 sen, MyEG Services Bhd inched up 1.5 sen to 82 sen, and Dagang NeXchange Bhd (DNeX) was up half-a-sen to 43.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index increased 19.82 points to 10,809.94, the FBMT 100 Index advanced 20.55 points to 10,469.85, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 1.27 points to 11,003.08.

The FBM ACE Index went down 7.18 points to 5,188.07, and the FBM 70 Index expanded 13.04 points to 14,356.47.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index climbed 78.56 points to 16,437.83, the Energy Index edged up 0.11 of-a-point to 860.62, the Plantation Index was 13.78 points higher at 6,999.78, and the Industrial Products and Services Index rose 0.86 of-a-point to 174.44.
