Don’t fret if you happen to visit the capybara enclosure at Zoo Negara and spot a distinctively different fuzzy companion. Fear not, for that is none other than Oyen, a feline who has officially become a permanent resident of the enclosure as approved by the zoo’s management.
In a TikTok video shared by the national zoo, a signboard proudly presents the words “capybara” and “Oyen.”
Within the 25-second clip, Oyen can be seen casually socializing with its plant-munching housemates.

As reported by Bernama, the zoo’s staff couldn’t precisely pinpoint when Oyen first moved in with the capybaras, but they presumed it occurred during the Covid-19 lockdowns, as the orange feline would frequently make appearances during feeding times.
Despite the contrasting dietary preferences of cats, known as obligate carnivores, and capybaras, who are herbivores, Oyen’s curiosity led it to explore the feeding area in hopes of finding some delectable morsels.
