India’s Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy are set to return to the court for the first time since the Paris 2024 Olympics at the China Masters 2024 badminton tournament, which starts in Shenzhen on Tuesday.
Badminton matches from the China Masters 2024 BWF Super 750 tournament will be available to watch on live streaming and live telecast in India.
Chirag-Satwik, seventh in the men’s doubles world badminton rankings, have been out of action since their elimination in the Paris 2024 quarter-finals after a loss to Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.
Satwik has been nursing a shoulder injury since then, prompting the reigning Asian Games champions to skip the subsequent BWF World Tour events.
The Indian badminton players are seeded sixth in the men’s doubles event at Shenzhen and this will also be the duo’s first test since parting ways with coach Mathias Boe.
PV Sindhu will lead the Indian challenge in women’s singles alongside Aakarshi Kashyap, Anupama Upadhyaya and Malvika Bansod.
Bansod, interestingly, made the China Open Super 1000 quarter-finals in September and is coming into the meet having made the final at the Hylo Open last month.
Lakshya Sen is in the men’s singles draw and will be up against Malaysian seventh seed Lee Zii Jia - the same opponent who beat him in the bronze medal match at Paris 2024 - in the opening round. Priyanshu Rajawat was also a late entry into the draw.
Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand and B Sumeeth Reddy/N Sikki Reddy will be the lone Indian entries in women’s and mixed doubles, respectively.
