San Tan Valley, AZ (AZFamily) — Do you remember your favorite teacher, the one you still have fond memories of all these years later? There’s always that one educator who makes such a big impact on the lives of their students!

For students at EDUPRIZE Queen Creek, that teacher is Megan Ferris who teaches 3rd grade and loves what she does!

“He feels safe being who he is. He knows that he’s loved by her no matter what he does,” said mom Mandy Shelley, who nominated Ferris for the award.

Shelley’s son Rowan is in her class this year.

“Rowan is an amazing kiddo, but school has never been the easiest for him,” she said. “It’s definitely a challenge and he holds it together really well at school, but a lot of meltdowns at home always occurred, and this year just something changed, and I knew it was different and I knew it was Mrs. Ferris.”

Arizona’s Family surprised Mrs. Ferris with the Silver Apple award along with our sponsor, Arizona Bank and Trust. When we walked through the door, the kids were so happy to hear their special teacher won a well-deserved award.

“I love being a teacher,” Ferris said. “This is what I’ve always wanted to do, following in the footsteps of my mom and my grandma, and so these kids mean the whole world to me. They are right up there with my own kids.”

A big congrats to Mrs. Ferris on this well-deserved honor!
