Key Updates Playing XIs Toss - SRH

19th over

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back. Single on the first ball. Perfect yorker but the batters steal a double. Mitchell hit the ball in the leg side and was off. Single on the third.

CSK 152/4 in 18 overs

Slower bouncer by Cummins but Jadeja puts it away over point for four. Slight misfield at cover and Jadeja steals a double. A single on the third ball. Another single. Mitchell finally manages to get enough power and pulls it for four behind square.

CSK 139/4 in 17 overs

Unadkat begins the over with a full toss and Jadeja guides it towards fine leg for four. Cutter again and Jadeja can only take a single. Six runs in first four balls. Another good over so far. Jadeja tries to ramp but Unadkat bowls a slower bouncer and the left-hander isn’t able to put the ball away.

CSK 132/4 in 16 overs

Natarajan again. Two singles in first three balls so far. Another single on the fourth ball. Terrific bowling by SRH here, not allowing any pace on the ball. Five singles in that over.

CSK 127/4 in 15 overs

Unadkat for his third over. Slower bouncer, Jadeja charges and hits a tennis shot past cover for four! OUT! Unadkat strikes and Rahane falls too. Slower ball, Rahane gets a leading edge straight to backward point.

Rahane c Markande b Unadkat 35(30)

Daryl Mitchell comes to the crease now.

CSK 120/3 in 14 overs

Cummins is back. Yorker first up and Dube takes a single. Rahane places the ball towards square leg and takes a double. SRH has done well in the last few overs to cut down the boundary rate. Cummins and Unadkat using the slower ball well. OUT! Dube is gone. Another slow bouncer and Dube tries to cut it but hands a simple catch to backward point.

Shivam Dube c Bhuvneshwar b Cummins 45(24)

Ravindra Jadeja is the new man in. Five runs and a wicket in that over.

CSK 115/2 in 13 overs

Rahane tries to slog on the first ball of Unadkat over but doesn’t time it well and only gets a double. Slower on the third ball, Rahane chips and the ball goes JUST past the flying mid off for four. 10 runs more added to the total in this over.

CSK 105/2 in 12 overs

Natarajan into attack now. Rahane pulls, skies it but the ball falls safely in the fine leg region. Half-tracker to Dube and he punishes it over midwicket boundary for a SIX. ANOTHER ONE! Full on the pads and Dube launches it in the same region for another maximum. A dot on the next ball as Natarajan bowls a slower bouncer. Then a yorker but Dube times it brilliantly in the cover region and runs a double. Yorker to end the over. 15 runs from the over.

CSK 90/2 in 11 overs

Jaydev Unadkat into the attack. Pace off the wicket is crucial so he will be crucial today. Has already bowled two slowers so far, one bounced too high and was called wide. Two attempted pulls and Rahane has been beaten on both attempts. A good quiet over so far. Can Unadkat finish this well? Yes, he can, six runs off the over.

CSK 84/2 in 10 overs

Cummins to bowl with action resuming after the first timeout of the match. Starts with a dot vs Dube. thumped straight close to the strip within Cummin’s reach. Another dot follows this time in the midwicket direction. Dube frees his arms a bit for a length ball from Cummins. Sends it to backward point for two. A slow bouncer up next from Cummins. A quick single is run. Rahane then gets a single through deep backward point, Unadkat stopping the ball from running past the rope. Dube finishes the over with a dot, with a nice piece of fielding from Nitish Reddy to stop any more damage. Good over this.

CSK 80/2 in 9 overs

Dube’s big hitting continues with a boundary off Markande who returns for his second over. Googly to begin from the spinner but nothing stops Dube. Nicely cut square for four. Follows that up with a quick two. A few singles pass. Shivam Dube is still settling into his crease as Markande comes in. Dube pulls out last minute with the ball going into the stumps. Was the bowler trying to rush him here? If he was, Dube punishes him right after, sending the ball over the fielder for SIX. The man at deep backward square could only watch. 15 runs come off this over for CSK. Dube doing the magic.

CSK 65/2 in 8 overs - Shahbaz Ahmed removes Ruturaj Gaikwad

Cummins sticks to spin to tighten the screws on the scoring rate. Shahbaz Ahmed brought in for his first and he will strike straight away as Gaikwad holes out to Abdul Samad at long on. Right on middle stump this ball. Gaikwad is left staring at his bat as he walks back to the pavilion. Shivam Dube is the new batter. Three dots later, Dube frees himself with a six and a four! Too good this from a man the television broadcasters call ‘a spin slayer’

The six goes over the bowler’s head to the fence, while his boundary comes through extra cover. 11 off the over.

WICKET Ruturaj Gaikwad c Abdul Samad b Shahbaz Ahmed 26 (21b 3x4 1x6)

CSK 54/1 in 7 overs

Mayank Markande is introduced by Cummins. The pair is working on rotating strike sticking to singles at the moment. The leg spinner is varying his speeds and keeps it tight. Six runs coming off this over.

CSK 48/1 in 6 overs

Bhuvi to round out the PowerPlay and Rahane’s intent is for all to see. He thumps the ball to the CSK dugout for FOUR. Goes straight over the bowler’s head. ‘CSK CSK CSK’ the crowd goes. Bhuvi slows his pace down and Rahane gets an easy single through backward point. Gaikwad drives but finds the fielder in the inner circle. Bhuvi then goes a bit wide on off and Gaikwad finds the gap, beating the short third fielder for FOUR. Knuckle ball from Bhuvi, but dispatched. Gaikwad follows it up with a shot straight down the ground for SIX. So easy on the eye as he hits the ball with the full face of the bat, straight down to the fence. Nice note to end an initially tentative PowerPlay on. 15 runs come from this Bhuvi over.

CSK 33/1 in 5 overs

Pat Cummins comes in for his first over of the night. A dot ball to start with some miscommunication between the men in yellow, but Rahane won’t sit quiet. Rahane then belts Cummins to the stands for SIX. Flies over deep midwicket this. Big strike, gets lost in the crowd. Cummins tightens his line sticking to a length delivery to Rahane. The CSK batter pulls for a single through square leg. Seven runs from this Cummins over.

CSK 26/1 in 4 overs - Bhuvi removes Ravindra

Bhuvneswar returns and he strikes off the first ball! Ravindra steps down to try and go big but he has not middled that well at all. Markram completes a simple catch a little beyond the umpire at mid on and Bhuvi has his first wicket of IPL 2024. Cummins is ecstatic and rightly so. Ravindra is a dangerous customer when set. Rahana is off the mark with a single down deep third. Bhuvi straightens his line again and it just goes past Gaikwad’s bat. CSK has not been able to get going here today. A lovely over from Bhuvi. The big wicket of Ravindra and just the one run from it.

WICKET: Rachin Ravindra c Markram b Kumar 12 (9b 2x4 0x6)

CSK 25/0 in 3 overs

A sedate start from CSK. Natarajan will bowl his first over of the night. Coming in from over the wicket to begin with. Gaikwad scrambles for a quick couple of runs. A dot ball and a single later, Ravindra -- who has looked a bit cagey -- frees his arms and swats the ball to the midwicket boundary. The ball was coming into him from Natarajan and Ravindra is happy to send this to the ropes. A run out opportunity! Ravindra sends the ball to mid on and gives up so early in his run to safety. If it was anywhere close, Ravindra would have been making his way back. Gaikwad finishes the over with a boundary. Slightly expensive this, a 12-run over from Natarajan

CSK 13/0 in 2 overs

Pace from the other end as Bhuvneshwar Kumar is handed the ball. Begins with a length ball to Ravindra which he can’t get away too far. Bhuvi sticks to that middle and leg line. Ravindra forces this to mid off and sprints for a run despite many many fielders around. Nicely done. Gaikwad opens the face of the bat to a ball tempting him on the off stump. Dispatched for FOUR. Bounced its way past backward point. Bhuvi isn’t getting much movement, but he straightens his line now. Gaikwad brings the bat down straight to defend and nearly edges. A collective “ohhhhh” from the crowd.

CSK 7/0 in 1 over

Rachin Ravindra takes strike. Abhishek Sharma will get things started with some left-arm spin. Ravindra and Gaikwad take a couple of singles after which Ravindra brings up the first boundary behind the wicket. Gets on one knee and swats the ball away to the fence. He then pushes the ball down to long on for a single. Gaikwad defends the ball to send it back to the bowler. Seven runs off the over, for no loss.
