Dafne Keen Lied About Being X-23 In 'Deadpool And Wolverine ...

Deadpool and Wolverine has released what is purportedly its final trailer, one that leans far less heavily into comedy and more about the weight of Wolverine reclaiming his role as an X-Man to help save Deadpool’s universe. And maybe all universes, once he makes his way over to the Avengers after this.

But the biggest news is not that this trailer is very good, but that it features the somewhat spoilery appearance of Dafne Keen as Laura, now grown up and presumably having embraced her X-23 role back in the Logan universe, which we already knew they were visiting.

The funny part about this is that Dafne Keene flat-out lied to everyone’s faces about being in the film when asked by On Demand Entertainment:

“It's sad...I love Hugh Jackman...Ryan Reynolds is a legend ... It would've been amazing to be a part of it,” she confirms that she won’t be, presumably because “they’re not gonna mess with Logan’s timeline.”

This is what’s known as pulling an “Andrew Garfield” who denied he was a part of Spider-Man: No Way Home until the movie aired, even after set shots leaked. Here, the Laura/X-23 reveal did not leak, though I would question the decision to put her in the trailer as that would have been a nice surprise moment, particularly after we thought that she wasn’t going to be there.

No, we do not see her fighting as X-23, but Keen is now 19, about eight years older than when she filmed Logan, and is clearly playing a grown-up version of the character. I’m not precisely sure why that character would go on to live a peaceful life with all the mutant kids she was tasked with protecting, and I would be shocked if they brought her back and did not have her fight as X-23, official costume or not.

Keen is just coming off of an excellent turn in The Acolyte where she played a young Jedi warrior (spoilers) who was shockingly killed off in an unexpected “no one is safe” epic lightsaber fight, where she display some of the best stuntwork in the show. Keen also starred in His Dark Materials which ran from 2019-2022. She has all the makings of a big action star in the future given her screen presence and fighting ability.

I do wish this was saved as a secret, but the trailer is worth watching anyway. Deadpool and Wolverine is out in just one more week on July 26.
