'Emily in Paris' Season 4 Part 2's Ending, Explained

Buongiorno! Netflix might have to change Emily in Paris's name, and if you've already caught up and seen the last batch of episodes since season 4 dropped part 2 then you know that's because... it sure looks like our girl might be moving to Rome. As shown in the preview at the end of Emily in Paris season 4 part 1, Mademoiselle Cooper no longer finds herself in a love triangle but rather a love square. And this new romance has led her right to Italy.

Will our protagonist find her happily ever after in the city of history, pasta, and The Lizzie McGuire Movie? How does Emily in Paris season 4 part 2 end? Have no fear, because our recap of the season finale is here.

Emily and Gabriel are, yet again, broken up.

Can't say we didn't already see this coming. With the (fake) baby with Camille creating some tension in their relationship, a Christmas skiing trip with Camille's (Camille Razat) family becomes the tipping point. Emily unofficially ends things with Gabriel right at the top of the mountain after he neglects to save her from a near-death experience. (He was too busy catering to Camille's needs.)

Things officially end between them (at least for the season) when Gabriel airs his grievances about having to speak English around Emily all the time and it's clear they're having a communication breakdown.

Genevieve enters the villa.

A hot new single makes waves in the show. Genevieve (Thalia Besson) is Sylvie's (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) stepdaughter (her husband's daughter from a previous relationship). When Genevieve struggles to find work in Paris, Sylvie employs her and assigns her as Emily's new protégé. At first the two get along swimmingly, but then Emily suspects Genevieve wants to take over her life and career. And this includes going after Gabriel.

Emily finds a new man.

When Gabriel failed to save Emily up on the slopes, a mysterious, debonair, drop-dead gorgeous Italian man named Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini) swoops in to the rescue. Emily thinks this was a one-off encounter, but then he shows up again at a polo tournament. They hit it off, and he even invites Emily to go to Rome on a holiday.

While still in Paris, Emily shows Marcello around town. But later he ghosts her. This doesn't stop Emily as she takes matters into her own hands. She takes her PTO—for the first time since she landed in Paris—and flies to Rome in search of her new love interest. She promises him that it's all for pleasure too, not for work.

Sylvie sabotages Emily's budding romance.

It turns out Sylvie is kinda at fault for Marcello's ghosting. While the couple was still in Paris, she ambushes them because Marcello is the heir to an Italian fashion company. She knows Marcello's family is considering JVMA to run their company's marketing, but Sylvie wants to persuade him to go with Agence Grateau instead. All of this overwhelms Marcello, which is why he ultimately ghosts Emily.

Later on, Sylvie goes as far as to fly to Rome herself. And while Emily initially doesn't want to get involved, she winds up weighing in with her opinion. He gets upset by this and says that inviting her to Rome was a big mistake, but Marcello's mom listens to Emily's arguments in favor of Agence Grateau and decides to give the agency a shot.

Mindy heads to Shanghai.

Sylvie is not the only one rushing to Rome. Between her breakup with Nico (Paul Forman) due to her complicated relationship with Benoît (Kevin Dias) and getting disqualified from Eurovision, Mindy (Ashley Park) is in desperate need of a vacation. She joins her bestie Emily in Italy to run away from her problems.

Mindy decides to let loose and performs her original song in the streets of Rome. This makes her go viral on TikTok and lands her her next gig: an invite from a show called Chinese Popstar to perform and become a judge.

Gabriel gets a Michelin star!

While Emily is off in Rome, Gabriel gets news that he is able to get his restaurant a Michelin star. Genevieve is the one who breaks the good news to him, and she goes in for the kiss...but the chef sets boundaries and says he'd rather be friends. Later he calls Emily and leaves a voice message, telling her about the star and expressing how grateful he is for her.

But how does it end? Are we getting Emily in Rome?

In the end, Emily makes amends with Marcello. While she has to bid him adieu for now as she heads back to Paris, the show teases she'll be back. Sylvie is able to secure the Muratori account, and the team is therefore temporarily relocating to Rome. This is great news for everyone except Gabriel, who decides he wants to win Emily back. (Even Alfie tells him to go after her!)

What happens next? Has Gabriel already lost his chance?? Will next season still be called Emily in Rome??? I guess we'll have to wait and find out next season.
