Emmy Awards 2024

Though they were temporarily postponed due to the SAG/AFTRA and WGA strikes, the Emmy Awards made a return to the red carpet on January 15 in Los Angeles. Our favorite celebrities, who got their awards season feet wet at the Golden Globes just a few weeks earlier, were ready for the occasion, all glammed up for an evening of celebrating the best and the brightest on the small screen.

What hair, makeup and manicure trends should you be keeping your eye on this year? Stars like Jenna Ortega, Ayo Edebiri, and Selena Gomez gave us some of the best beauty inspo, including Ortega's anti-Wednesday Addams neutral mani, Edebiri's chic chin-length bob, and Gomez's deep burgundy lip. Red and pink tones ruled; Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson, Claire Danes, Lizzy Caplan, and Padma Lakshmi all wore the Valentine's Day-ready hues on their lips, eyes, and cheeks. As we often see at awards shows, undone Hollywood waves were a popular pick for celebs, including White Lotus star Simona Tabasco and Beef star Ali Wong. And no, we didn't forget Jeremy Allen White, whose enviable curls were in top form for the show.

Below, check out the best beauty moments from the 2024 Emmy Awards.

Yes chef! White's curls were beautifully defined for the Emmys, resulting in effortless, luscious ringlets and waves.

Taraji P. Henson

The actor was also thinking pink at the Emmys, looking stunning in a raspberry eye that matched her gown and “a sleek, snatched ponytail.” Makeup artist Saisha Beecham used L'Oréal Paris Infallible Up to 24H Fresh Wear Soft Matte Blush on Henson's cheeks, blending into her eyeshadow. “It’s so bright and a lot goes a long way.”

For Henson's hair, stylist Tym Wallace added extensions from Hidden Crown, then applied L'Oréal Paris EverPure 21-in-1 Color Caring Spray. “With all the press stops for The Color Purple, there has been a lot of manipulation to her natural hair so I really wanted to make sure her hair was hydrated,” Wallace shared. He blew the hair dry and used the ghd Chronos flat iron to silk press it, pulled the hair up into a ponytail, and finished with L'Oréal Paris’ Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hairspray - Unscented and TPH Keep Shining Dry Oil Mist.

Jessica Chastain

Nothing hits like a redhead wearing bright green, as Chastain so beautifully proved with her long, loose straight hair and neon lime sequined gown. Pale pink blush and lipstick were a gorgeous contrast. Stylist Renato Campora spritzed Hair Rituel by Sisley-Paris Volumizing Spray on Chastain's roots for lift and humidity protection, then applied the brand's Protective Hair Fluid on the length of her hair. “This product is great for protecting against the harsh LA sun and pollution," Campora shared. “Both products work well together because they are lightweight and have a non-sticky formula, which are properties I always look for in a product.” Campora applied a pea-sized amount of The Cream 230 from mid-lengths to ends, then blew the star's hair straight, following with a flat iron.

Makeup artist Kristofer Buckle used Charlotte Tilbury products on the star, including the Luxury Eye Palette in The Sophisticate and Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes Mascara on Chastain's eyes. On her lips, Buckle used a combo of Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk and an as-yet-unreleased shade of lipstick we can't wait to try.

Suki Waterhouse

Waterhouse looked every inch the ‘70s rock star in her tousled, undone waves and matching bangs. Lighter blonde highlights near her face added a beachy vibe. Makeup artist Benjamin Puckey applied Naked Sundays Collagen Glow 100% Mineral Lotion SPF 50 to the actor/musician's face and the brand's Golden Glow Body Sunscreen SPF 50 on her body, then applied CabanaGlow SPF50 Mineral Glow Serum Drops in the shade Illuminating for a sunny shimmer.

Pedro Pascal

The Mandalorian star Pascal looked particularly suave with defined short waves and a salt-and-pepper beard.

Selena Gomez

Gomez stunned in a deep burgundy lip, with a softer dark rose tone brushed subtly across her lids to mimic the lip color. Makeup artist Hung Vanngo used a combo of Rare Beauty Kind Words Lip Liner in Strong and Kind Words Matte Lipstick in Strong and Devoted for the ultra vampy vibe. To let the lip take center stage, Gomez wore her hair pulled up and back with large portion at the front styled in a loose wave.

Issa Rae

Sleek in the front, party in the back! Rae added a handful of feathers similar to those on her dress to her low updo for a fun, glamorous touch.

Jenna Ortega

The Wednesday star ditched Wednesday's signature pigtails in favor of a sweet, gently waved long bob with curtain bangs, pink lipstick, and a milky, my-nails-but-better manicure. Makeup artist Melanie Inglessis used Dior Beauty on the star, including the viral Rosy Glow Blush in Pink on her cheeks, Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara in Black on her lashes, and Rouge Dior Lipstick in Daisy Plum on her lips.

Simona Tabasco

The White Lotus star Tabasco wore her dark hair parted to one side and styled in perfect bends, but it was her bright pink lip and matching blush that really caught our eye.

Sheryl Lee Ralph

The Abbott Elementary star, who took home an award in 2023 and wore the most gorgeous rhinestoned braid, went for a ‘90s vibe in a voluminous bob with flipped-out ends. Her hair was styled away from her face with tons of volume and oomph. Icy eye shadow and winged liner were the perfect pop. For her flushed cheeks, makeup artist Keita Moore used Maybelline's Fit Me Blush in Berry.

Ali Wong

The comedian opted for a deep blue eye shadow peeking out from under her oversized glasses and a short French manicure. Makeup artist Daniel Martin used Dior products for that oceanic blue glam, including Diorshow 5 Couleurs eye shadow palettes in Denim and Pied-de-Poule and Diorshow On Stage Crayon Kohl in Blue.

Lizzy Caplan

The actor looked timelessly chic in a low knotted updo and crimson red lip, paired with just the subtlest hint of pink shadow on her lids. “As Lizzy wore a vintage Yohji Yamamoto strapless gown that exuded old Hollywood glamour, we wanted to keep the overall vibe feeling effortless, yet elevated,” said hairstylist Marcus Francis. “We styled the hair up with a soft finish and an undone chignon to let Lizzy’s dress be the spotlight and her glam stay cool and timeless.” After applying mousse to her damp hair and rough drying, Francis used PHYTO PRO Style Texturizing Powder at the crown of her hair for lift. Francis pulled Caplan's hair into a low pony, then looped and pinned the ends into a loose chignon. Face-framing layers added softness, and Francis set the style with PHYTO PRO Style Laque Soie.

Makeup artist Jenna Kristina used Maybelline products on Caplan, saying, "Lizzy’s dress was a vintage ‘90s dress, so to match that, we went with a very ’90s inspired makeup look – a clean face, lots of mascara and a perfect brick red lip.” To get the look, try Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liner in Plum Passion and Ultimatte Slim Lipstick in More Brick.

Jennifer Coolidge

The White Lotus star posed in a glam updo that would have made her onscreen character Tanya proud, complete with bouncy curls and curtain bangs. She added her signature peachy blush and nude lip.

Aubrey Plaza

Plaza also got the curtain bangs memo, hitting the Emmys carpet with her hair in a half-up style with peekaboo bangs. She paired it with a cranberry lip — L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Intense Volume Matte Lipstick in Worth It — for a gorgeous contrast against her pale yellow Loewe gown.

Ayo Edebiri

The Bear star Edebiri's adorable chin-length bob was styled straight and sleek and tucked behind her ears for a minimalistic chic vibe. Before styling, hairstylist Ro Morgan applied Maui Moisture Frizz-Free + Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioning Mist on the mid-lengths to ends to detangle and protect from heat damage, then added the brand's Flexible Hold + Coconut Milk Curl Foam Mousse to her damp hair, section by section, before drying. To finish, Morgan reached for Lightweight Curls + Flaxseed Edge Control and an edge brush to smooth the front section.

Riley Keough

The Daisy Jones and the Six actor had a bow-ment on the red carpet with a cute black bow tied right at the base of her high half-ponytail. Hairstylist Gregory Russell prepped Keough's hair with Pureology Weightless Volume Mousse and Instant Levitation Mist, blew out the actor's hair with a round brush and applied Soft Finish Hairspray through each section before curling with a 1.25" iron. To finish, Russell spritzed Lock It Down Hairspray through the pulled-up section, then fastened with a bow barrette by Lelet New York.

Ariana DeBose

DeBose changed it up in a big way with her super sleek, long straight hair, plus peachy cheeks and fluttery, wispy lashes.

Claire Danes

Danes's honey-blonde bob had a '60s vibe thanks to the deep side part, subtle volume at the crown, and the bold, flippy curl that framed of her face. She finished off her red carpet look with a milky manicure and sweet pink lipstick.

Christina Ricci

Thinking about getting bangs? Christina Ricci will convince you it's time to call your stylist. The Yellowjackets star wore her hair in a low knot and added a hint of shimmery gold metallic liner to her lower waterlines.

Niecy Nash-Betts

Emmy winner Nash-Betts looked like the definition of red carpet glamour with a bold black cat eye, long middle-parted mermaid waves, and a glossy lip.

Hairstylist Davontae Washington drew inspiration from Nash-Betts's velvet mermaid gown. Washington prepped the hairpiece with TPH’s Hustle & Co Hydrating Co-Washnd Flow Co Washnd Flow Co Wash and Soak It Off Wig & Install Soak, then curled with a 1" wand. After setting the curls, Washington brushed through the hair with a paddle brush, then finished with hairspray and TPH's Keep Shining Dry Oil Mist.

Quinta Brunson

The Abbott Elementary creator and star looked pretty in pink in her Dior Couture dress, worn with a soft, rosy eye, cheek and lip, paired with waist length waves. Her mani was also tipped in metallic pink. Brunson's makeup artist, Kasha Lassien, used Beautyblender products on the Emmy winner, including BOOST Firming & Smoothing Peptide Primer to prep her skin; Bounce Always On Radiant Skin Tint all over her face, applied with a Beautyblender sponge; and Bounce Liquid Whip Cream Blush in Blissful Berry and Flirty Rose on her cheeks.

Hairstylist Alexander Armand prepped Brunson's hair with TPH by Taraji Hot Commodity Heat Protectant, then blew it dry. Next, Armand parted her hair, used a silk press technique to straighten each section, added extensions and curled the hair. Armand applied TPH's Slick Edge Control to smooth any flyaways, then finished with Keep Shining Dry Oil Mist and Keep it Fresh Hair Refresher.

Beatrice Grannò

The White Lotus season two actor's wavy bob with bangs was a little bit ‘30s, but the glossy red lip and brushed up brows felt very 2024. Makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez used Armani Beauty’s Lip Power Matte Lipstick in 400, a classic red, on the star's lips. “For Beatrice I was inspired by the seductive elegance of her dress," Gonzalez shared. "I was deeply inspired by the red lacquered roses and matched the lip.”

Padma Lakshmi

Lakshmi brought bright, vibrant color to the carpet in a hot pink lip and chartreuse gown. She wore her hair in loose, undone curls down her back.

Laverne Cox

Cox looked gorgeous in a high bright blonde ponytail that flowed all the way past her shoulders and down to hip length, paired with an equally stunning sparkly, rhinestone-embellished eye. The actor, who hosts the red carpet for E! News, added a touch of jewel-toned teal and amethyst purple on both her upper and lower lashlines.

The Wednesday star wore a pale, shimmery eye shadow with her white off-the-shoulder top and pants and paired it with lots of lashes, white liner in her waterlines and a glossy red lip.
