England vs West Indies

SEE YOU NEXT TIME!

If you're still yearning for some international T20 action then there's the final Australia v Pakistan game live on TNT Sports and discovery+ at 8:00 UK time tomorrow, and if not then the good news is you don't have to wait long to see England back in action.

The test series against New Zealand on November 27 and we'll bring you every ball of all three games live, see you then!

MATCH ABANDONED

And that's it folks. To absolutely no one's surprise, the match is called off as the rain continues to bucket down.

UNPRECEDENTED WEATHER

Talk about words you don't want associated with cricket weather. Our wonderful Nikhil Uttamchandani has said he's "Never seen rain like it in the West Indies".

'BLEAK'

It's an adjective that you really don't want describing the conditions at a cricket match but that's exactly the situation at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground with any resumption of play looking increasingly unlikely.

STILL RAINING IN ST LUCIA

The downpour continues with the puddles becoming larger and larger on the covers. But there's still plenty of time to get some action in if things do dry up!

Alastair Cook is more optimistic about that New Zealand tour though on TNT Sports:

We're going to have a cracking series. The Two sides are incredibly well-matched to play against each other.

"There's normally some cracking games of circket, almost started the Bazball revolution with Jonny Bairstow going berserk at Trent Bridge."

WHAT NEXT FOR ENGLAND?

Jacob Bethell doesn't have much time to celebrate his spectacular form in the Caribbean as he earned his first test call-up for England's three-match tour of New Zealand, starting November 27.

Most of the big guns return though Jamie Smith is missing the series for the birth of his first child, but the limited-overs stars don't have too long to wait either as England will be embarking on a tour of India featuring five T20s against the world champions, and three ODIs against the World Cup runners-up.

England squad for New Zealand test series: Ben Stokes (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Bryson Carse, Jordan Cox, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Joe Root, Olly Stone, Chris Woakes.New Zealand squad: Tom Latham (captain), Tom Blundell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Will O'Rourke, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Nathan Smith, Tim Southee, Kane Williamson, Will Young.

Both series will be live on TNT Sports and discovery+, as will India's titanic test series in Australia that starts on Friday.

The sides are first and second in the World Test Championship standings and contested the last final while also sharing the limited overs world titles, they will battle it out over five mouthwatering matchups ending in January.

STILL TIME?

The latest possible start for a five-over chase is 11:48PM UK time, so strap in because we could be in for a late one here! We won't be restarting any time soon.

PASSING SHOWERS?

The skies are starting to clear elsewhere in St Lucia, but after such a downpour it feels unlikely that we'll be underway too soon despite the best efforts of the groundstaff.

It's somewhat back to square one for Evin Lewis and Shai Hope, who had been ticking along nicely before the break.

Still no word as to when play could resume, so there's plenty of time to check out last night's swashbuckling action:

AROUND THE GROUNDS

Thankfully, this isn't the only action going on in the world of cricket this weekend.

Obviously the West Indies won the first leg of this double-header yesterday, while Pakistan will also be hunting a consolation victory against Australia tomorrow morning with the Aussies already 2-0 up in that three-match T20 series.

That's their last action before hosting India in a titanic best-of-five test showdown between the best red ball sides in the world, all of that action will be live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

Meanwhile earlier today Kusal Mendis' unbeaten 74 helped Sri Lanka to victory over New Zealand in their shortened ODI.

TEST, ODI AND T20: WHAT CRICKET IS ON TNT SPORTS?

We promise it won't all be like this!

Fans will be able to enjoy more unforgettable moments from the world of cricket on TNT Sports in 2024 and beyond.

TNT Sports has also agreed a deal to show exclusive live coverage of every red-ball and white-ball international series played in India for the next five years.

TNT Sports will broadcast England’s white ball tour (3 x ODIs and 5 x T20s) of India in January-February 2025, as well as England's white-ball tour of the West Indies in late 2024.

NO UPDATE

Except that it's still raining. A lot. Which is less than ideal.

SCORECARD

With no letup in the weather right now, we've seen six four and two sixes as the West Indies openers have picked up where they left off yesterday:

COOK: GOOD START FOR ENGLAND

The England bowlers have suffered so far but are forcing the batters to hit away from their plans and on TNT Sports, Alastair Cook believes it's been a positive start.

"They've gone heavy into length or gone bouncer, you could slide one ball really full and try and aim for the right heel as a left-hander, or gamble and say one ball out of my six I'm going to go wide and full.

"Lewis, the couple of times he gets out is when he loses his shape and the ball's outside his eyeline so it might be worth a gamble if you're hunting wickets.

But on the whole I think England will be sat there going 'we've made a good start'."

HEAVY SHOWER

They say that it's no problem if you don't like the weather in the Caribbean, just wait five minutes and some more will come along. However, it's bucketing down on the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground so the question is how much damage will this shower do?

RAIN DELAY

Spectators were donning their raincoats a couple of overs ago and now the covers are called on. Hopefully this will just be a short delay with a healthy wind blowing across St Lucia.

WEST INDIES 44-0 (LEWIS 29, HOPE 14) Overs: 4

We've seen this one recently! Both batters find the rope in Turner's second over, a thumping Evin Lewis six the pick of the bunch as he hammers the ball square, hard and well over the rope.

But Turner hits back with the next ball, Lewis doesn't react quick enough to the short ball and it slams into his helmet. Still, 16 from that over.

WEST INDIES 28-0 (LEWIS 18, HOPE 9) Overs: 4

Jamie Overton is back and immediately into the attack after he didn't bowl yesterday. He may wish he wasn't as Lewis smashes his third ball to the rope with just one bounce through.

Some smart fielding from Sam Curran and Jacob Bethell prevents another boundary when Lewis pulls hard, but this is a promising start by the West Indies at seven runs per over.

WEST INDIES 23-0 (LEWIS 13, HOPE 9) Overs: 3

We have our first six! Archer lines up just too straight and Lewis returns to sender, 73 metres over the boundary rope.

Three balls later, a shorter delivery almost goes the same way from a Hope pull but just drops short of another maximum. Still, that's 11 from the over.

WEST INDIES 12-0 (LEWIS 6, HOPE 5) Overs: 2

Saqib Mahmood was the man withdrawn for Jofra Archer in today's squad so he can't re-form their profitable partnership with the ball, instead it's John Turner taking over.

His second ball is a peach across Lewis, just beating the edge, but Shai Hope responds with a defiant punch through extra cover for four.

WEST INDIES 6-0 (LEWIS 5, HOPE 0) Overs: 1

And we're off! Jofra Archer takes the new ball and immediately fashions a chance through a Evin Lewis top edge.

Even the 6'5" Jamie Overton can't catch it in the slips through so the hosts survive the first over.

T-5 MINUTES

The sun is shining in St Lucia and we're just a few minutes away from the national anthems! Can the West Indies pick up where they left off yesterday? Or will England's changes make the difference? Find out soon!

BUTTLER: GOOD JOB BY ENGLAND IN DEFEAT

England were stunned by the West Indies' buccaneering batting yesterday after Phil Salt and Jacob Bethell both performed well in the first innings, but captain Jos Buttler told TNT Sports he thinks there were still plenty of positives from the five-wicket defeat.

"We did a pretty good job, obviously a couple of really big overs which you want to try and limit but chasing a big score the West Indies were always going to play that way."

So we fought our way back into the game really well, setting the tone with the ball today we’ll try and do a good job with that."

LAST TIME OUT

With the T20 series already wrapped by England, the West Indies showed they’re far from done with an electrifying run chase as both sides combined for 439 runs, 10 wickets and four half-centuries.

And because there’s still 11 minutes until we get started tonight, there’s just enough time to check out the highlights of that one!

BACK WITH THE BALL

Jamie Overton has been used sparingly with ball in hand on this tour - much to Alastair Cook's chagrin - but the all-rounder set to be unleashed on the Windies' batting lineup today and he spoke to TNT Sports earlier:

"The plan wasn’t necessarily to play all the games, it was just trying to bowl whenever I can. The back-to-back games were the ones that we were probably a bit worried about so decided yesterday was the day off and trying to bowl again today.

It’s a little bit frustrating but it’s nice being involved in games knwoing I can contribute with the bat if need be, and in the field."

WEST INDIES TEAM NEWS

Obed McCoy out, Romario Shepherd in for the West Indies in their final match before they host Bangladesh in an all-formats series next up.

ENGLAND TEAM NEWS

Saqib Mahmood and Dan Mousley make way for Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid, and Jamie Overton moves up to number seven in the batting order for the visitors.

ENGLAND WIN THE TOSS

Yet again. And they will bowl first, as has been the theme in this series. Jos Buttler cited the way the pitch played yesterday and said his side "Learned a lot from that game and we’ll try and take that into today".

HELLO AND WELCOME

Seven matches down, one to go before England’s Caribbean jaunt comes to an end and Jos Buttler and co. will be hungry to bounce back from falling to a thrilling West Indies run chase yesterday.

England set the joint-highest ever first-innings total at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground but half-centuries from Evin Lewis and Shai Hope helped the hosts pull off a sensational victory with an over to spare - though England are still guaranteed a series win sat at 3-1 right now.

Jacob Bethell starred with the bat once again and Rehan Ahmed oversaw a team hat-trick so there were still positive signs for England, but an inspired West Indies side proved too strong and if tonight’s action is anything like that we’re in for a treat.

TNT Sports 1 and discovery+ are live right now with build-up ahead of the first over at 20:00 UK time, and we’ll be bringing team news and the coin toss result here over the next 30 minutes.
