Who do you think will win the European Championship in Germany this summer?

As we look ahead to the big kick-off in Munich tonight (Friday), when the hosts take on Scotland, we put that very question to a number of Manchester United legends on Instagram.

The bookmakers rate England, who were runners-up to Italy last time around, as slight favourites, ahead of two-time winners and 2018 world champions France.

Hosts Germany are just behind, with Portugal and Spain also well regarded by punters.

Phil Neville played for England at Euro 2000 and 2004 and he reckons the Three Lions will pip France in the final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on 14 July.

Eight United legends have had their say, but do you agree with their calls?

Rio Ferdinand, who somehow never featured at a Euros, despite being selected for three World Cups, agrees with Neville’s vote for the victors, as does Dimitar Berbatov. Berba doesn’t have a horse in the race, as Bulgaria have not qualified, but he believes it’s finally time for England to end their 58-year trophy drought.

But Patrice Evra, who started for France when they reached the final as hosts in 2016, is naturally struggling to see beyond Didier Deschamps’s men.

That’s the case for the also admittedly biased Mikael Silvestre, with the former United defender predicting a ‘remake of 2016’, when Les Bleus were beaten by Portugal in Paris, ‘but this time France takes it home.’

Evra, Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba all played in that game eight years ago, as did Nani.

The mercurial winger captained Portugal after another former Red, in Cristiano Ronaldo, departed the final early through injury.

Ronaldo is still very much present in the Selecao squad, at the age of 39, along with Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes, and Nani is expecting his country to have more success to celebrate this summer.

Juan Mata is another former Red who has won the competition, scoring in the final for Spain, as they beat Italy 4-0 in 2012. That was La Roja’s third straight tournament success and El Mago thinks there may be more joy to savour in a month’s time.
