After yesterday's truncated, weather-affected running in Montreal, teams got a final chance to dial in their cars ahead of qualifying through FP3 this afternoon—and there's a surprise name at the top of the timesheets.

Lewis Hamilton has been vocal about Mercedes' shortcomings this season but seemed more upbeat following Friday's running in the rain. That appeared to carry over to Saturday as Hamilton headed the field, with teammate George Russell four-tenths of a second further back in P3. Max Verstappen bounced back from his ERS issue on Friday to finish second, but he reported that his car was bouncing around too much - a similar issue to Monaco. Although he was able to go P2 with a late lap, three-tenths back from Hamilton, he did glance the Wall of Champions on exit.

Monaco winner Charles Leclerc was also fairly vocal about Ferrari's lack of pace in final practice, as he only wound up P10 overall. He told engineer Bryan Bozzi, "We are extremely slow." He even questioned if he was doing something wrong in the opening complex of corners, where he was losing three-tenths automatically to Hamilton.

Going into qualifying, it's really hard to pick the favorite for pole as it seems very open. If Hamilton can pull it off, it would be a huge breakthrough for Mercedes. There remains the possibility of rain hitting again, which could shake things up, and as we saw throughout FP3, traffic could also trip up a few people.
