The 2024 season continued to throw up surprises in Las Vegas. Max Verstappen wrapping up his fourth title was arguably not one of them, but elsewhere there was no shortage of history-making happenings against the backdrop of those famous neon lights. Here’s a quick round-up…

• The 2024 season is the first in F1 history in which four different constructors have finished one-two in a Grand Prix (Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes).

• It’s also the first season in history in which four constructors have won at least four Grands Prix each.

• And the first season in history in which seven drivers have won multiple Grands Prix.

REPORT: Verstappen crowned champion as Russell heads Mercedes 1-2 in Las Vegas

• With P1 in Las Vegas, Russell secured his third career Grand Prix victory.

• Mercedes led every session this weekend.

• Lewis Hamilton’s P2 finish was his first podium finish since inheriting the Belgian Grand Prix victory following Russell’s disqualification.

• Hamilton remains seventh in the drivers’ championship, having never finished an F1 season outside the top six.

No victory in Vegas, but Verstappen did what he needed to do to become 2024 champion

• Hamilton has now finished on the podium at 36 different circuits, extending the F1 record he already held.

• This evening’s result was Mercedes’ 60th one-two in their constructor history, and their first since Sao Paulo 2022 (they lost out on a one-two in Belgium earlier this year due to Russell’s aforementioned disqualification).

• Carlos Sainz finished in P3 for Ferrari – his third top-two finish in the last four Grands Prix.

• Team mate Charles Leclerc took P4 and is the top scorer in the United States races this season with 64 points).

• After crossing the line in P5, Max Verstappen became the sixth driver in F1 history to win four (or more) world championships, after Juan-Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton.

• Verstappen joins Nelson Piquet (1981) and Keke Rosberg (1982) in winning the championship in Las Vegas.

• Verstappen won the title in Vegas by finishing P5, as did Piquet – the father of his girlfriend – in 1981.

• Verstappen has won the championship on a Saturday night for the second year running (he clinched it at the F1 Sprint in Qatar last year).

• He has led the drivers’ championship continuously since May 22, 2022, the longest run in F1 history.

• Red Bull scored for the 65th consecutive race today, the second-longest streak in history (Ferrari scored in 83 in a row from 2010 to 2014).

His title hopes may be over, but a fastest lap for Norris helped McLaren in their bid for constructors' glory

• McLaren’s Lando Norris finished sixth for the second consecutive race.

• Norris set the fastest lap of the race on the final lap, meaning McLaren now lead the constructors’ championship by 24 points over Ferrari.

• Team mate Oscar Piastri came home in P7 for his 16th consecutive points finish (matched with Verstappen).

• Thanks to Nico Hulkenberg’s P8 finish, Haas have regained sixth in the constructors’ championship by one point over Alpine.

TREMAYNE: Max Verstappen has now joined the exclusive ‘four titles’ club – but he was already one of the all-time greats of F1

• At RB, Yuki Tsunoda took P9 to score for the second consecutive race and the ninth time in Grands Prix in 2024.

• In the second Red Bull, Sergio Perez finished in P10, meaning he has scored nine points in the last six Grand Prix weekends.

• Kick Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu was 13th – he has only finished higher once all season (11th in Bahrain).

• Alex Albon’s DNF for Williams means he has not seen the chequered flag since Austin.
