Onana: FA Cup win will repay the fans

Andre Onana wants to repay the support of Manchester United's global and loyal fanbase this season by lifting the FA Cup.

The Reds will be looking to avenge last season’s final defeat against the same opponents, Manchester City, at Wembley on Saturday and need to win in order to secure European football next term.

Onana ended his ever-present campaign in the Premier League with a clean sheet in Sunday's 2-0 victory at Brighton, and his attention is now quickly shifting to his first major final as a United player.

As our attention turns from Brighton to Wembley, Andre stresses the importance of being together in the FA Cup final...

“It’s a fantastic win [against Brighton], a good moment,” the goalkeeper told MUTV at the Amex Stadium.

“We have to keep working hard, keep pushing. I’m happy for the hard work of my team-mates, it was not easy against a very good opponent. Now we have ahead a very important game for us, for the club, for the fans, for me and for my team-mates - a big final so now we are thinking about it.”

Against the Seagulls, Lisandro Martinez made his first start since February and Raphael Varane returned to action from the bench. With other players back in training too, Onana feels these are positive signs ahead of the Wembley showpiece.

“They are very important players for us and we are happy when we see them on the pitch. Much more are already starting to train so hopefully we will be all together at Wembley on Saturday because we need everyone, we need all our players, we need our fans because it’s going to be a really difficult game.”

Erik ten Hag’s side will be hoping to conclude what has been a challenging campaign on a high in the capital - which Onana believes will be the perfect way to thank our fans around the globe for their unwavering support.

“One hundred per cent, it’s been a difficult season for them and for us,” our no.24 added.

“We must win this for them because they travel a lot of kilometres to support us and we feel them. They are always behind us when we are down so from here, we can only thank them for all of their support this year.

“For me, it was difficult at the start and they were behind me so I’m very thankful to them. Let’s end on Saturday at Wembley, we will be there and we will fight until the end.”
