For the first time this season we have an all-Red Bull front row, after an on-form Sergio Perez came within a tenth of a second of beating team mate Max Verstappen to pole in Japan. But breathing down their necks at the start will be McLaren’s Lando Norris and, winner of the last round, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz.
Also looking to get into the Turn 1 mix when the lights go out at Suzuka will be the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso and the second McLaren of Oscar Piastri. And don’t dismiss the row-four men – that’s Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

Yuki Tsunoda will be keen to make a strong impression in front of his home crowd, the Japanese driver having qualified tenth, just ahead of RB team mate Daniel Ricciardo. And at the very rear of the grid, Williams’ Logan Sargeant – back after missing the last round in Australia – and Kick Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu will be aiming to make up some early places following disappointing Saturday showings.
