SEOUL (ANN/THE KOREA HERALD) – Renowned K-pop artist G-Dragon, from Big Bang, has been appointed as a visiting professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), as announced on Wednesday. The singer’s role aims to enhance the global competitiveness of Korean culture by integrating cutting-edge science and technology developed at KAIST into K-content, according to KAIST officials.
Expressing his gratitude, G-Dragon stated, “I am honoured to join KAIST, a renowned institution known for nurturing scientific geniuses. I anticipate a fruitful collaboration between top science and technology experts and my expertise in entertainment.”
As part of his responsibilities, Professor Kwon (G-Dragon) intends to engage in research on digital twin technology for Hallyu artists, explore the convergence of K-culture with technologies like artificial intelligence, robots, and the metaverse, and develop artist avatars using state-of-the-art techniques such as volumetrics, motion capture, and haptics at the KAIST-Galaxy Corporation Enter-tech Research Center (tentative name) within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at KAIST.
Furthermore, G-Dragon will deliver lectures on leadership to undergraduate and graduate students over the next two years, drawing from his experiences as a globally acclaimed artist to inspire students with his visionary insights. KAIST anticipates that G-Dragon’s artistic background will nurture students into creative and interdisciplinary talents.
Additionally, G-Dragon will serve as a global ambassador for KAIST to promote the university internationally.
In January, G-Dragon surprised audiences with an appearance at CES 2024, the world’s largest IT and consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, alongside Galaxy Corporation.
He is also gearing up for his highly anticipated comeback with a new solo album slated for release in the second half of this year, marking his first solo album in nearly seven years since his last mini album “Kwon Ji Yong” in 2017.
