CARROLLTON, Texas – After another top-10 finish two weeks ago, the Texans' next stop is in Carrollton for the North Texas Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday.
In their last outing, Tarleton State finished 10th at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational in University Place, Washington, on April 1-2. This marked the team's fourth straight top-10 finish, going +16 (868) this time after shooting +2 (866) for third at The Big Texan, -9 (855) for sixth at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational and +34 (886) for tied-seventh at the Bentwater Intercollegiate.
The Texans' top performer of late has been Alvaro Huidobro. He finished tied-15th in University Place with a score of even (72, 70, 71) and has been playing his best golf of the season over the last four tournaments. The junior heads into Carrollton with three straight outings of shooting right at or under par. Before his last outing, he had shot a combined -11 over the previous two tournaments, with an average round score of 68.8.
Max Bengtsson still leads the group on the year in scoring, owning a 71.6 average round across 24 rounds. He's posted five top-20 finishes on the year, three times in the top-two with medalist honors in Mexico in October.
Carson Gallaher is shortly behind Bengtsson with a 73.0 round score across 27 rounds. He's placed in the top-20 three times, twice in the top-10.
Tarleton's lineup at Maridoe Golf Club will be Huidobro at No. 1, Cristobal Sepulveda at No. 2, Bengtsson at No. 3, Gallaher at No. 4, Bladen Samaniego at No. 5, and Chandler Barch playing as an individual. Sepulveda is coming off of his best tournament of the season, going +4 (71, 74, 72) in Washington, while Samaniego turned in at +11 (75, 75, 74).
The upcoming tournament, hosted by North Texas, will play as a Par 72 at 7,388 yards. It will be a much smaller field than Tarleton is used to, with just six teams competing. Besides Tarleton and the hosts UNT, the Texans will compete against UT Arlington, ULM, Incarnate Word and Stephen F. Austin.
