As India resumes its much awaited red ball season against Bangladesh, it is not off to a cracking start as anticipated in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, thanks to Hasan Mahmud.

With Bangladesh, who is here for a two-match Test series, winning the toss and electing to field first against a strong Indian side led by Rohit Sharma, pacer Hasan alone has shaken the hosts.

The 24-year-old pacer continued his heroics from Pakistan for his country, Bangladesh, as he went on to dismiss Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, all before the first session.

He bundled out the star-studded batting line-up under 30 runs and 9 overs.

Who is Hasan Mahmud?

Hasan Mahmud is a Bangladeshi cricketer, known for his fast bowling and ability to swing the ball at pace. He made his debut for the national team in 2020 with the shortest format, quickly gaining attention for his speed and accuracy.

The right-arm fast pacer has represented Bangladesh in all formats of the game—Tests, ODIs, and T20Is—and has been lauded for his performances in limited-overs cricket.

In January 2021, Hasan Mahmud was named in Bangladesh's ODI squad for a series against the West Indies, making his debut on 20 January 2021.

Later that month, he was included in Bangladesh's Test squad for the same series. In March 2023, Hasan achieved his maiden five-wicket haul in the third ODI against Ireland.

The duo shared nine wickets between them, with Hasan taking 5-43 and Nahid adding 4-44—both career-best figures—as Pakistan was bowled out for 172 in their second innings. This left Bangladesh with a target of 185 to clinch a 2-0 series win.
