India takes on Bangladesh in the first T20I in Gwalior on Sunday.

India takes on Bangladesh in the first T20I in Gwalior on Sunday.

Hello and welcome to Sportstar’s HIGHLIGHTS of the first T20I between India and Bangladesh from the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior.

A crushing win for India

India’s young group has proven its mettle in the first T20I by comprehensively beating Bangladesh. It was an all-round effort with both bat and ball. Arshdeep SIngh and Varun Chakaravarthy, returning to the national team after three years, picked three wickets each, while Mayank Yadav impressed with his pace yet again on his international debut, most notably starting his career with a maiden over before picking his first wicket. With Bangladesh restricted to 127, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya’s blistering knocks ensured India overhauled the target with 49 balls left. The next game is scheduled for October 9 in Delhi, before the series concludes in Hyderabad on October 12.

That’s all from us, folks! Tune in and join us for the remainder of the series. Goodnight.

Player-of-the-match: Arshdeep Singh 3/14 (3.5)

There’s breeze from the end I was playing. I didn’t get the wicket the way I wanted, but the ball is coming good from the hand. It is minor changes in the wrist. I keep learning and exploring things. The experience is there, the more you play the better you get. Everyone played well. Mayank [Yadav] was very good. I guess in this format the best thing is how well you can adapt to the situation, to the wicket and the ground dimensions as well. My motive is to adapt as quickly.

Relive the winning moment!

Varun Chakaravarthy on his India return

After three long years, it was definitely emotional for me. Feels nice to be back in the blues, it feels like a rebirth. I just want to stick to the process, that’s what I have been following in the IPL as well, I don’t want to go beyond what’s there and I just want to stay in the present, that’s why I don’t want to think too much or express too much. After IPL, I played a few tournaments and one of those was TNPL. It’s a very good tournament and of high standard as well. That’s a place where I work a lot, with Ash (Ashwin) bhai also, we won the championship as well. That gave me the confidence here. It was a good preparation for me for this series.

IND 132/3 in 11.5 overs

Taskin comes back. Yorker, Hardik cannot put bat on ball and he will scamper through for one leg-bye. FOUR! Absolute nonchalance! Defended solidly back to the bowler next ball by Samson. FOUR! Beats mid-off and that’s two boundaries from the over for Samson.

All set for the chase

India will need 128 runs to win from 120 balls. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson will get India’s chase underway. This should be a breeze for the hosts, but you never know with cricket.

BAN 127 all out in 19.5 overs

Arshdeep will finish the innings. Starts off with an excellent yorker to Miraz and it is a dot. FOUR! Miraz gets an inside edge trying to whip this on leg-side and the ball goes between his legs before racing away to the boundary behind. Miraz steps out next ball and slices this over the in-field on the off-side for two more. Arshdeep comes around the wicket to Miraz, digs it in short and Miraz’s pull goes to fine-leg on the bounce for just a single.

OUT! Stumps are shattered as Arshdeep Singh darts in the perfect yorker to No. 11 Mustafizur.

Mustafizur Rahman b Arshdeep Singh 1 (5b)

BAN 120/9 in 19 overs

Mayank will bowl out. Yorker at 145.6 first up and Miraz digs it out. Slower one and muscled to deep midwicket by Miraz and he surprisingly takes the single, exposing the No. 11 to Mayank’s pace. Mustafizur does well to flick it off his shoes for a single at deep square. Slower one again, Miraz is looking to muscle it but only gets an outside edge for a single. A couple of dot balls to end the over and Mayank bowls out with 1/21 from 4 overs.

BAN 117/9 in 18 overs

Hardik again. Taskin gets a top-edge to long-off trying to pull and only gets a single. OUT! Swatted by Miraz to deep square, he wants a second but Taskin takes time to leave the crease from the batter’s crease and is run out at the bowler’s end. Shoriful Islam is the next man in. Miraz gets a single at long-off. Shoriful then misses the first ball he faces as he is cramped for room on leg-side. OUT! Off-stump uprooted and Shoriful has to go. He exposed all the three stumps and was done in by a yorker.

Shoriful Islam b Hardik Pandya 0 (2b)

Taskin Ahmed run out (Arshdeep Singh/Hardik Pandya) 12 (13b 1x4)

BAN 114/7 in 17 overs

BAN 111/7 in 16 overs

Hardik returns for his third over. Pace-off delivery to start and Miraz can’t get it past the cover fielder. FOUR! Thick outside edge for Miraz as he goes for a drive outside off, but finds the third-man boundary instead. Tucked away behind square by Miraz for one more. Hardik comes around the wicket to Taskin and goes down leg-side to concede a wide. He comes back immediately over the wicket. A couple for Taskin as he gently pushes this to long-on and has enough time to come back for the second. Bouncer, Taskin ducks under it, and that’s one for the over. Taskin gets a leading edge that falls safely as he looks to tuck a length ball on leg-stump through square-leg.

BAN 102/7 in 15 overs

Here is Washington again. Three singles to start the over. Taskin with a solid defensive shot off the fourth ball. And another one off the fifth ball. FOUR! Taskin sweeps, gets it off the inside half of the bat and finds the boundary at fine-leg. That’s 100 up for Bangladesh in 15 overs.

BAN 95/7 in 14 overs

Najmul Hossain Shanto c & b Washington Sundar 27 (25b 1x4 1x6)

BAN 70/5 in 11 overs

Nitish continues. A couple of singles off the first two balls. He also comes around the wicket to leftie Shanto. He then goes down leg-side as Miraz shuffles across and it is called a wide. Driven through cover by Miraz for just one as Rinku cuts it off. Five singles and a wide from the over; just six from it.

BAN 64/5 in 10 overs

Varun bowls his third over. He gets away with a loose full-toss first ball as Shanto flicks it away for a single. OUT! Jaker is cleaned up and Varun has his second. That went through bat and pad as Jaker strode forward to defend.

Here comes Mehidy Hasan Miraz. FOUR! Plays the ball very late and collects a boundary first ball in the third-man region. A paddle sweep to fine-leg for a single next ball. A couple of singles more to end the over.

Jaker Ali b Varun Chakaravarthy 8 (6b 1x6)

BAN 56/4 in 9 overs

Here comes Nitish Kumar Reddy into the attack. Fullish and on the stumps and solidly defended back to the bowler by Shanto. Cut away hard by Shanto, point gets a good hand to it and keeps it down to a couple of runs. Thick outside edge as Shanto swings his bat outside off, the ball goes in the air and on the bounce to third-man; just a single. Flicked away for one more by Jaker next ball. Slow and full, Shanto steps out to squeeze a single through the off-side field. That’s 50 up for Bangladesh in 8.5 overs. SIX! Massive six for Jaker to end the over as he clears long-on with ease.

BAN 45/4 in 8 overs

Mayank continues. Single for Shanto and that’s the first run conceded by Mayank in his international career. That was bowled at 148.7 kmph. OUT! Mayank has his first wicket and Mahmudullah has to go. This was wide outside off, at 146.1 kmph, and Mahmudullah ended up slicing it to deep point.

Good bouncer, at 142.7 kmph, and left alone by Jaker. Another short and quick delivery to end the over and Jaker doesn’t want to get in the ball’s way.

BAN 42/3 in 7 overs

Varun will continue after the PowerPlay. Shanto sweeps but finds the short fine-leg fielder. He sweeps next ball again but just a single at deep square-leg. Beaten! Towhid Hridoy c Hardik Pandya b Varun Chakaravarthy 12 (18b 2x4)

BAN 39/2 in 6 overs

And here comes Mayank Yadav finally. Starts off with a 141.8 kmph delivery outside off and Hridoy leaves it. This is 145.7 kmph, shaping in a bit and defended by Hridoy for two consecutive dot balls. The third ball is at 137.9 kmph and another dot ball. This is 147.3, the fastest so far, and Hridoy is happy to defend. The fifth delivery is at 135.1. Mayank ends the yorker with an excellent yorker and that’s a maiden over.

BAN 39/2 in 5 overs

Here comes Varun Chakaravarthy, back in action for the first time in national colours since the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Starts off with a dot ball. DROPPED and FOUR! Debutant Nitish lets the ball go through his hands at deep square-leg as Hridoy goes for the slog sweep and doesn’t really time it. FOUR! This is short and pulled away by Hridoy for another boundary.

SIX! Shanto ends the over with a reverse-sweep that sends the bail sailing just over the rope at deep point for a maximum. 15 runs from Varun’s first over.

BAN 24/2 in 4 overs

Hardik continues. FOUR! Slower one angling away just outside off-stump, and Shanto has to wait for it before pulling it through midwicket for a boundary. Two singles off the next two deliveries. Back of a length on leg-stump, Shanto looks to swivel and pull it behind the keeper, it goes off his thigh pad and Samson does very well behind the stumps to dive to his right and keep it down to just one leg-bye. Another single for Hridoy to end the over. Eight runs from it.

BAN 16/2 in 3 overs

Arshdeep continues. OUT! Bowled him and Emon has to go. He chops on trying to cut the ball away hard. Arshdeep has removed both openers in his first two overs.

Towhid Hridoy is the next man in. He starts off with a single at third-man. Searing bouncer to Shanto and the skipper does well to duck under it. Slower low full-toss and flicked away for a single by Shanto.

A couple of dot balls to end the over as Arshdeep angles the ball away from Hridoy. Just two runs and the wicket from the over.

Parvez Hossain Emon b Arshdeep Singh 8 (9b 1x6)

BAN 14/1 in 2 overs

Hardik Pandya will share the new ball. Tucked away off the hips behind deep square-leg by Shanto for a single. SIX! Full on leg-stump and Emon flicks this over fine-leg for the first maximum of the match. Next ball is short from Hardik and that’s one bouncer for the over. Beaten! Back of a length, angling away just outside off and Emon missing trying to punch it off the back foot. Low full-toss and just a single for Emon at mid-off to end the over.

BAN 6/1 in 1 over

Arshdeep Singh has the ball. Parvez Hossain Emon and Litton Das will open the batting for Bangladesh. One slip in place for Emon. Shaping away a bit and Emon pushes this straight to the mid-off fielder for a dot ball. Driven well by Emon but straight to point. No runs yet after two balls. Full on middle and driven to mid-on, a misfield by Hardik Pandya and Emon is off the mark with a single. FOUR! Litton starts off with a boundary. Thick outside edge and the ball races away to the third-man boundary.

OUT! Litton is gone next ball. Wide outside off delivery and he ends up slicing it high in the air and Rinku Singh takes a simple catch.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto is off the mark with a quick single at mid-off.
