Indian 2 trailer: Kamal Haasan returns as Senapathy in Shankar's film.
Starring Kamal Haasan, the trailer of Indian 2 released on Tuesday evening. Directed by Shankar, the film is a sequel to the 1996 film Indian, where Kamal played the role of a freedom fighter named Senapathy, who is fighting against the corruption in the system. 28 years later, Kamal has reprised the role in Indian 2.
The trailer introduces us to Siddharth’s character who is questioning the flaws of the system. The trailer talks about the society’s problems of unemployment, corruption and the lack of development, and introduces Kamal’s Senapathy who once fought against the system, and is back to save the society. Kamal’s character appears in many disguises throughout the trailer, much like the first film and declares a “war of independence”. “This is the second war of independence. You take the Gandhian approach, while I take Netaji’s approach,” he announces.

Indian 2 was first announced in 2017 during the finale of Bigg Boss Tamil by Kamal. But after producer Dil Raju backed out, the film was taken over by Lyca Productions. The film’s shoot ultimately began in 2019 but an on set accident in 2020, which resulted in three fatalities, halted the film’s shoot. After a crane collapsed on the set in February 2020, three people died and 10 others were injured. The deceased included the director’s personal assistant Madhu, assistant director Krishna and another crew member named Chandran. It was later reported that the director and actor jointly gave Rs 1 crore each to the families of the deceased and also offered monetary help to those who were gravely injured on set.
At the time, Kamal offered condolence to the deceased via his Twitter handle and wrote, “I have faced and overcome many accidents, but today’s is the most horrific one. I have lost three colleagues. More than my own pain, the distress of their family members will be many times greater. I share their grief as one of them. My deepest condolences to them.”
Alongside Kamal, the film also stars Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, SJ Surya, Gulshan Grover. Piyush Mishra among others. Indian 2 will release in theatres in July.
