Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez will undergo medical tests on Friday to shed light on his physical condition.

On Wednesday, the Nerazzurri hosted Bologna at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.

The 26-year-old endured a night to forget on all levels. He squandered a spot-kick in the second half and then had to watch his teammates succumb to defeat in extra time.

Carlos Augusto gave the Nerazzurri the lead in the 92nd minute. However, Thiago Motta’s men turned the result upside-down with two late goals to secure a 2-1 victory after 120 minutes.

To make matters worse for the Argentine star, he left the pitch in the 99th minute while visibly in pain.

Earlier reports suggested that the striker suffered a thigh problem, but the extent of his knock remains to be seen.

So according to Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews, Martinez will undergo tests on Friday night which will allow the medical staff to assess his condition.

Based on the results, the club will make a decision upon the captain’s availability for Saturday’s Serie A encounter against Lecce and beyond.

On another note, Sky expects Alexis Sanchez and Stefan de Vrij to make their respective returns from injury this weekend.

The duo trained separately on Thursday but their good pace offers positive indications. Therefore, the two experienced stars could be included in the matchday squad on Saturday.

The Chilean missed the last two fixtures against Lazio and Bologna with a muscular strain. On the other hand, the Dutchman picked up an injury during the 3-0 win over Napoli earlier this month.
