Inter Vs Cagliari

Inter Milan forward Alexis Sanchez has won plaudits for his sparkling display in yesterday’s Serie A draw with Cagliari.

The 35-year-old received the highest score of any Nerzzurri player in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Sanchez got the start in yesterday evening’s match.

Inter captain Lautaro Martinez was absent due to suspension. Therefore, it was the Chilean who started in place of Martinez, leading the line alongside Marcus Thuram.

And it was an impressive performance from Sanchez.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United forward used his close control and low centre of gravity well throughout the match in order to give Inter a reference point in attack.

Sanchez kept the ball well, winning his battle with Cagliari defender Yerry Mina.

Sanchez’s positioning was a key facet for Inter.

The veteran forward often dropped deeper into midfield to pick up the ball.

This allowed Sanchez to be the player to receive on the turn and then drive at the Cagliari backline. It was one major avenue of getting the ball forward for Inter early in the match.

And this became tough for the Rossoblu to defense to pick up, particularly before a substitution by Claudio Ranieri offered the team more protection in midfield.

But Sanchez also timed his more attacking runs well during the match.

The 35-year-old played off the shoulder of Mina and the Cagliari defenders at times as well.

This was how Sanchez got the assist for Thuram’s opening goal in the first half. The Chilean’s timing, control, and weight of pass were all perfect to set up his strike partner.

For the Gazzetta, Sanchez’s performance on the whole was worthy of a score of 7/10.
