Key Real Madrid star looking forward to Intercontinental Cup final – ‘It’s something great’
Real Madrid are just under 24 hours from their next title of the season and are privileged to have the chance to take home silverware with just one win in the event.
As the defending champions of the UEFA Champions League, however, they are the favorites in tomorrow’s Intercontinental Cup final where they earned a direct seeding to the pinnacle clash.
A lot rides on the result against Pachuca, the Mexican club, for Real Madrid’s confidence, spirit and reputation stand on the line in a delicate balance.
Courtois’ verdictEarlier today, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois spoke to the media (h/t Mundo Deportivo) about the team’s upcoming final and what he expected from the game at Lusail Stadium.
The Belgian goalkeeper began by outlining the importance of the Intercontinental Cup and how it kept the world of football connected beyond geographical boundaries.
“It is always important that everyone has the opportunity to play against each other, especially the champions of the different continents,” he said.
“It is important to have this intercontinental event to determine who was the best in 2024,” he added.

Commenting on Real Madrid’s direct place in the finale and how it was difficult to fit the one-off game on the already hectic calendar, Courtois said,
“It’s something great and, of course, with the calendar it’s not always easy to organize these matches, but we’re all excited to play this game, to play this final, because it means that we won the Champions League last season.”
“That’s always rewarding. It’s a prize for the hard work done during the previous season,” he added.
Finally, the goalkeeper was asked what he expected from Pachuca’s approach to the game and style of play.
“It’s always different, their style of play is sometimes the opposite of European football. Sometimes the intensity changes, sometimes they are more physical, the determination or tactics change.”
“That’s why it’s always nice to play these games. I think it will be a great final,” he added.
