CNN Exit Poll: Biden approval rating in Wisconsin worst of the swing ...
President Joe Biden's approval rating in Wisconsin is lower than in any other swing state so far, according to early data from CNN's exit polls.
In the Badger State, which is roughly divided between Democrats and Republicans and is critical to both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump's chances of victory, only 38 percent of voters said they approved of Biden's job performance. Some 61 percent said they disapproved - a lower percentage than every other battleground state so far. CNN has not yet released exit poll data for Nevada.
In Arizona, 43 percent of voters said they approved of Biden's job performance. Forty-one percent of voters in Georgia said they gave Biden positive marks, while 42 percent did so in Michigan and North Carolina. Forty-three percent of Pennsylvania voters said they approved of Biden's job performance.
CNN's exit poll data also showed Trump doubling his support among Black voters, winning 20 percent of the voting group this year compared to eight percent in 2016.
Harris held onto Biden's margin among white voters, winning 62 percent of them—the same margin that the incumbent president enjoyed four years ago. She also won 61 percent of Hispanic voters, a slight improvement over Biden's 60 percent in Wisconsin, though they made up only four percent of the electorate.
Wisconsin backed President Joe Biden in 2020 by 21,000 votes. If Trump can flip the state, it unlocks a path to 270 Electoral College votes if he can secure Michigan and Pennsylvania.
The state has seen third-party candidates playing a pivotal role by splitting the left and right-leaning votes, with Democrats trying to have Jill Stein kicked off the ballot, and Robert F Kennedy Jr handing Trump a boon by suspending his own campaign and endorsing the former president.
Harris and Trump had been locked in a tight race in the final stretch of the campaign - FiveThirtyEight's polling aggregate gave Harris only a one point advantage in the state on Election Day.
Exit polls measure voter attitudes about a range of topics but are subject to change as more surveys are released to news outlets as election night goes on. Data that could indicate the direction of the election is also withheld until polls close.
Early exit poll results have produced some positive signs for Trump; nationally, 72 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is going, according to the exit poll. In Georgia, another battleground, exit polls showed Trump doing better with independents than he did four years earlier.
But the presidential race still remained too early to call in any of the key states at about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
