'Joker 2' Teaser Debuts. When Is Full 'Folie À Deux' Trailer Coming?

Footage of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker: Folie à Deux has been released, teasing the release of the film’s first full trailer Tuesday night.

The 27-second teaser footage was released in conjunction with Warner Bros. Pictures’ presentation of DC’s Joker sequel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The teaser shows Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck — aka Joker — laughing maniacally while standing alone in a rainy prison yard.

The full trailer is expected to include footage of Lada Gaga as Harley Quinn, which is a separate version of the antihero played by Margot Robbie in the DC’s two Suicide Squad movies and Birds of Prey. Gaga’s singing talents will also be utilized in Joker: Folie à Deux since the crime drama will be part movie musical.

According to Variety, 15 cover tunes will be featured in Joker: Folie à Deux and more original songs may be added to director Todd Phillips’ film. Phillips directed the first Joker in addition to writing the film’s screenplay with Scott Silver.

Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled to open in theaters on October 10. The first Joker film was a massive blockbuster for Warner Bros. and DC, earning more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

The hotly anticipated Joker: Folie à Deux is the follow-up to the 2019 blockbuster hit Joker, which earned Joaquin Phoenix an Oscar for Best Actor. Joker — based on DC Comics’ legendary Batman nemesis — tracks the origins of Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian who turned to murder after years of ridicule.

Joker — which also took a Best Original Score Oscar — was nominated for 11 Academy Awards overall. The film was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director for Todd Phillips and Best Adapted Screenplay for Phillips and Scott Silver.

In addition, the film earned Oscar nods for Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Set in the 1980s, Joker also stars Robert De Niro as talk show host Murray Franklin. The TV talker meets a tragic end when he invites Fleck to appear on his talk show and is executed by the clown makeup-wearing criminal in front of a live studio audience.

Zazie Beetz, who starred in the first Joker as Fleck’s object of affection, Sophie Drummond, will reprise her role in Joker: Folie à Deux.
