Vote counting in Papua to take two days: KPU
Sentani, Papua (ANTARA) - The Papua General Elections Commission (KPU) stated that it would take only two days to count the regional head election (Pilkada) votes at polling stations in nine districts and cities in that region.
"The vote count is set to only two days, namely after voting and tomorrow (Thursday, November 28). All ballot boxes, including other logistics, must be delivered back to the Pilkada tool warehouse then," Papua KPU Chairman Steve Dumbon stated here on Wednesday.
Dumbon asserted that the recent local election (Pilkada) demonstrated more effective execution than the national General Election on February 14, 2024.
"We are comparing it because in the last general election, there was still logistics that had not been sent even until the third day, but this time, 99 percent of the ballots and other logistics had been distributed D-1," he highlighted.
He explained that his side also distributed logistics to three polling stations this morning.
"There were three polling stations in Papua that had not received the logistics D-1, but we sent it this morning to ensure vote recapitulation in nine districts and cities," he remarked.
He added that the voting organizing team (KPPS) must provide an opportunity for residents to channel their political rights until the Pilkada voting process is completed.
"From four polling stations, we see that the residents' participation is quite good, with a participation rate above 50 percent so far, and it is expected that KPPS will allow residents to vote even after 1. p.m. WIT (Eastern Indonesia Time)," he remarked.
On that occasion, Dumbon inspected four polling stations in Jayapura City, Keerom District, and Jayapura District.
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk, Acting Governor of Papua Ramses Limbong, Papua Police Chief Brigadier General Patrige Renwarin and Chairman of the Papua General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Hardin Halidin were present during the inspection.
