LeBron James had another triple-double and Austin Reaves scored 22 points in the second half to lead the Lakers to a 123-103 win over the Raptors on Sunday.
Anthony Davis’ MVP-style dominance continued until he exited the game with an injury in the third quarter. He scored 19 points of his 22 points in the first quarter. He also grabbed four rebounds and a steal.
However, after being hit in the face by Jakob Poeltl midway through the third quarter, AD went to the locker room and did not return.
In his absence, LeBron James stepped up in the second half, ending with 19 points, 16 dimes and 10 rebounds. Austin Reaves pitched in with 27 points and six assists. D’Angelo Russell had another nice game off the bench with 15 points.
Along with his defensive presence, Cam Reddish scored 11 points.
Gradey Dick started things off for Toronto with a layup. A welcomed sight was AD knocking down a 3-pointer, which seems to officially be back in his arsenal as he keeps making more of them. The Raptors were playing a much better game offensively, though, as they were up to eight fastbreak points near the midway point of the quarter.
Toronto was up by five, but AD cut the deficit to three with a nice floater. Los Angeles’ offense started looking much better. A 3-pointer by Gabe Vincent had brought the Lakers to within two, but the Raptors went up eight after scoring six straight points.
D’Lo knocked down a 3-pointer to start the scoring for Los Angeles in the second. Although the Lakers were struggling defensively, their offense kept them close. They were still down by eight, but an and-1 by LeBron got them to within five.
Toronto added to their lead again with a layup to go up seven. Conversely, AD put down a ferocious dunk to cut the deficit to within five again. Cam’s productive minutes continued as he stole the ball and got out in transition to score a layup.

Austin converted on a nice and-1 to stop some of the bleeding. He then scored on a driving layup to cut the deficit to four. Unfortunately, the Raptors once again jumped ahead by eight after the Lakers' defense failed them.
The Lakers then had a mini-surge led by a three by AD to beat the shot clock. It was then followed by a layup in transition by LeBron. Toronto kept responding, turning this into a battle of offenses.
Austin did an insane behind-the-back pass to Cam for a dunk that brought the house down and made it a three-point game again.
AD went back to the locker room after getting poked in the eye following an incredible block. The Lakers took the lead by two after a three by Dalton. LA’s energy was at its highest with the Raptors starting to look defeated. At the end of the third, Los Angeles found themselves up by six.
Gabe scored on a nice layup to start the final frame. The Lakers were in full possession of the momentum. They kept building onto their lead of 11. LeBron connected to Jaxson Hayes quite a lot for a few dunks.
LA’s lead ballooned to 14 with a three by D’Lo. The Lakers maintained full control of the game for the win, each player who played had productive minutes and fantastic effort, especially in this half.
Austin took over and shot 73% from the field in the second half, converting on two threes along with a barrage of layups to seal the win.
Key Takeaways:The experiment of inserting Cam into the starting five and D’Lo into the bench has proven to be quite successful. It might just be what they need to hold onto for the foreseeable future.
The bench had themselves a wonderful game. Lots of productive minutes and 40 points in total.
Rui Hachimura’s offensive production seems to be slumping. Hopefully, he’ll get back to his strong play from the start of the season.
Have we seen the end of Max Christie having any regular playing time?
The Lakers' next game will be a rematch against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday at 7:00 PM PT.
