Leandro Trossard's ridiculous dribble made Arsenal forget all about ...

Arsenal are well renowned for their tricky wingers from years gone by and going off his debut cameo, Leandro Trossard could be their next star in waiting.

The Gunners had spent the last few months flirting with Mykhailo Mudryk, only for him to join Chelsea instead. Trossard was very much the backup plan, but the move could turn out to be a stroke of genius.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been going fantastically well this season, with 50 points already collected from their opening 19 matches. Their fluid playstyle makes them one of the best sides to watch in Europe.

In fact, they are currently on course to pick up 100 points this season which speaks to the level they are currently at. What could possibly go wrong from this point?

The biggest flaw with this Arsenal squad is arguably the lack of depth in certain departments. Eddie Nketiah has done superbly well to fill the void left by Gabriel Jesus, but one more injury and they might have been struggling.

That’s where Trossard comes in. Up until this point in the season, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka have started in every league game for the Gunners.

The Belgian winger provides an added bit of flair from off the bench and he can be a real asset in the second half of the season. After all, his debut showcased just how effective he can be.

After being substituted on in the 82nd minute, he wasted no time in showing what he’s all about. The 28-year-old completed two successful dribbles, won three ground duels and had a 100% pass accuracy. Not bad as debuts go.

His close control and ability to wriggle out of tight situations like this one will be especially helpful when Arsenal are trying to see out matches.

Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas told Sky Sports: “Well we need to believe in the squad they have. I think Trossard is a really good player, better than at the moment what people think he is.

“He showed it at Brighton and he showed it today for a couple of minutes. He’s different to what they’ve got. He plays between the lines, he can score goals, play in different positions up front.

“Gabriel Jesus needs to come back at some point soon and if they can keep going with Eddie [Nketiah] scoring goals and waiting for Gabriel to come back. Plus the defender that they just bought from Spezia. Maybe [they could get] another signing.”

Fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp was also impressed with the winger, adding: “There would have been panic stations when they didn’t get Mykhailo Mudryk, they might have thought, ‘That was a big miss for us’.

“But Trossard has already shown in a 15-minute cameo that he is going to be a great signing for them. Great qualities, goes forward with the ball, he’s comfortable on it.

“He’s a typical Arsenal player if you like. A good footballer that scores goals, makes goals, he’s a good signing, £22million [up front] is a real bargain from their point of view.”

Arteta has been building something special at the Emirates over these past few years and Trossard might just be the icing on the cake.
