Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.
Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

It took the game a little while to get going before Alvarez scored with the first shot of the game on the half-hour mark. Just two minutes later, Fulham were level though as Ream latched onto Ederson's save to tap in from close range. On the stroke of half-time, Ake controversially put City back ahead after VAR deemed Akanji wasn't blocking Leno's view from an offside position. All three second-half goals came courtesy of Haaland, slotting in two well-taken finishes on either side of a penalty which Alvarez won after being bundled over by Diop.

Alvarez actually scored with the first shot of the game on the half-hour mark, tapping in Haaland's low cross. Just two minutes later, Fulham were level once more after Ream latched onto the loose ball after Ederson saved Jimenez's volley. In stoppage time, Ake thumped in a header from a corner, and after a VAR check to see if Akanji was blocking Leno, it controversially stood.

Akanji jumps out of the way of Ake's header as it bounces into the ground, and it's not until it clears the defender that Leno dives. It does look like he was blocking the keeper's view, but VAR doesn't see it that way, and the goal will stand.
