Manchester. Mees Hilgers, the FC Twente defender currently in the process of naturalization to represent the Indonesian national team, delivered an impressive performance as the Dutch club secured a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

The 23-year-old defender received the second-highest rating on his team, while striker Sam Lamers, who scored a goal, earned the top rating for Twente with a score of 7.4 on Whoscored.com. Hilgers, who played the full 90+ minutes, followed closely with a rating of 7.1. Midfielder Youri Regeer also made a significant contribution, receiving a rating of 6.6.

For Manchester United, forward Marcus Rashford was the highest-rated player, achieving a score of 7.5, while defender Noussair Mazraoui earned a rating of 7.3.

The Red Devils initially took the lead with a goal from Christian Eriksen in the 35th minute. However, Twente applied pressure and equalized in the 68th minute after Lamers intercepted the ball from Eriksen.

In related news, the House of Representatives Commission III has approved a proposal to grant Indonesian citizenship to both Hilgers and PEC Zwolle's Eliano Johannes Reijnders Lekatompessy. This decision will allow them to join the Indonesian National Football Team for two crucial away matches in the third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers against Bahrain and China in October.

Both players have Indonesian heritage through their mothers; Eliano’s mother and grandfather were born in Jakarta, while Mees’ grandfather hails from Ambon, Maluku.
