28 Celebrities Who Nailed the 2024 Met Gala Theme

The 2024 Met Gala offered plenty of room for sartorial interpretation. This year’s exhibit, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” invited visitors to reconsider how we can engage with clothing too old to wear again. Meanwhile, the dress code, “The Garden of Time,” referred to the short story by J.G. Ballard. The story’s protagonist, Count Axel, slows an angry mob nearing his castle by cutting flowers from his garden until none remain.

Between the exhibit and the dress code, there were several avenues for guests to explore, from the more esoteric (ephemerality, preservation, degradation, fragility) to the literal (time, gardens).

Last night’s Met Gala attendees proved that there were infinite ways to ace the theme. Some guests, like Lewis Hamilton, Kendall Jenner, and Bad Bunny, offered abstract takes, while others, including Ayo Edebiri, Tyla, and Gigi Hadid showed just how much incredible work goes into a Met Gala look.
