15th over
Mayank is back. Wadhera slaps him over midwicket for a SIX on the first ball. Brilliant shot.
MI 80/5 (14)
Bishnoi continues. Two runs in three balls. Wadhera sweeps brilliantly towards midwicket and gets a boundary. These two have crossed the fifty-run stand. OUT! Ishan Kishan goes for a slog sweep, gets a leading edge straight to short third. He falls for 32.
MI 73/4 (13)
Hooda for his second over now. A quiet over. Just five runs off it. Kishan and Wadhera have taken a bit of control over the innings that was going downhill right at the beginning.
MI 68/4 (12)
Bishnoi continues. Alternating between attacking the pads and his signature googlies, there’s a stumping appeal for Ishan Kishan. Ball passes close to the bat, there’s no bat involved. Foot is behind the line. Ishan survives. Just three runs come off the over.
MI 65/4 (11) - Deepak Hooda gets his first over of the season
Deepak Hooda with the ball now. Playing to the matchups. Right arm spin to two left arm batters here. Where is Krunal Pandya? After four singles where he goes into the leftie, Ishan finally swings away to send the ball flying through midwicket for four.
MI 57/4 (10) - Spin introduced. Ravi Bishnoi takes charge
Bishnoi into the attack. A quiet start for Ishan but he then manages to strike the ball almost through the umpire down the ground four four. ALL FALL DOWN, Bishnoi falls, umpires falls. He then employs the googly and beats Wadhera twice. Eight runs off the over in total.
MI 49/4 (9) - Kishan dropped
Mayank Yadav returns. Ishan Kishan swats the ball to deep midwicket and Ashton Turner has squandered the ball. Would have been a good catch, but dropped. LIFELINE FOR KISHAN. Mayank strays beyond the tramlines and a wide is called. After a few dots, Ishan eases the pressure with a boundary over mid off. FOUR. Thumped with a flat bat. He follows that with a single through point. Eight runs come off this Mayank Yadav over.
MI 41/4 (8)
Naveen ul Haq returns for his second. The pair rotates strike with Naveen deploying his slower balls to try and draw an error from the MI duo. Wadhera then gets the ball through midwicket and the pair run a quick two. Dot balls to follow with the second one rising up on Wadhera who arches back to avoid impact. Kishan manages to nudge the ball away from the wicket, Naveen collects and ensures a run isn’t conceded with a run out threat.
MI 36/4 (7) - Mayank Yadav is back!
Mayank Yadav is here with the ball in his hand. Starts with a 144.1 kmph ripper that hits Ishan Kishan on the helmet. Ishan is okay, gets the customary physio check. Stays with his outside off line but switches up his lengths here Mayank. But Ishan is staying cautious. He eventually oversteps. Free hit to Mumbai Indians. After seeing through the second worst PowerPlay score this season, MI needs to use these chances. Mayank concedes another extra, wide for height. Wadhera the batter. Mayank has been a bit rusty here today. Slows down and it’s gone a little high again as Wadhera reaches for it. Umpire signals for the bouncer but Wadhera wants to review for a wide. Replays show the ball passing below the helmet line and within the tram lines. Mumbai loses the review. Wasted. Wadhera then manages to smack the ball through mid off for four. Beats a diving Pooran too and Suryakumar Yadav applauds from the dugout, impressed. Mayank then goes to a back of a length ball that goes into the batter. Wadhera defends. Eight runs come off the over.
MI 28/4 (6) - Tilak, Hardik fall
Naveen Ul Haq will round out the PowerPlay and he strikes on the very first ball. It starts out as an lbw appeal. Bishnoi collects the ball at backward point and sends it to the batter’s end, hitting the stump. TILAK IS RUN OUT. TROUBLE TROUBLE TROUBLE for MI. Oh wait, it gets worse! HARDIK ALSO GOES, FIRST BALL.
Hardik has knicked a ball that straightens and KL Rahul does the rest. OUT! Naveen on a hattrick. Nehal Wadhera is the new batter and survives the hattrick ball.
WICKETS Hardik Pandya c †Rahul b Naveen-ul-Haq 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0, Tilak Varma run out (Ravi Bishnoi) 7 (11b 1x4 0x6) SR: 63.63
Naveen has used his deviations well here and gives away just the one run. LSG closes out the PowerPlay with another good showing with the ball. T he side has taken 18 wickets in the first six overs this season. Imperious.
MI 26/2 (5)
Stoinis returns. KL Rahul wants to maximise the swing he’s managing to get. Sends one slower to Tilak who is beaten by the lack of pace. He then goes short and that was what Tilak wanted. One bounce four over point. Stoinis pulls his length back and Tilak nudges the ball away for a dot. Stoinis then beats Tilak in the air yet again. The ball straightens and Tilak has no room. Five runs come off the over.
MI 22/3 (4)
Mohsin to continue from the other end. A single through mid on off a fuller delivery from Mohsin for Ishan. Couple of dots with Mohsin testing Tilak with one even going above him to the keeper. Mohsin cramps Tilak for space and bowls into him, not allowing him to squeeze the ball out for runs. A challenging passage of play for one side in blue. Finishes off the over with a yorker that has Kishan scrambling. Just two runs come off the over. Nice work from LSG so far.
MI 20/2 (3) - Stoinis takes out SKY
Stoinis returns. Surya despatches him for a massive six over square leg. WHAT A SHOT. Stoinis then opts for a back of a length delivery angled into leg. Surya runs three with the ball racing through midwicket. Ishan then runs a single through deep backward square. Oh and then we have an appeal with Surya seemingly knicking the ball to the keeper. Umpire calls it a wide and KL Rahul reviews this immediately. VINDICATED. Replays show that the ball brushed Surya’s gloves and went to KL who completes a clean catch. Huge wicket this.
WICKET Suryakumar Yadav c †Rahul b Stoinis 10 (6b 0x4 1x6) SR: 166.66
Tilak Verma is the new batter in. Early pressure for MI in a match they HAVE to win to stay alive in the tournament.
MI 8/1 (2)
Mohsin Khan shares the new ball. Rohit scoops the ball over the keeper’s head for FOUR. Oh but the birthday boy will not do anything further as Mohsin Khan has the India captain. Drives the ball but Stoinis takes a lovely catch at short extra cover.
WICKET Rohit Sharma c Stoinis b Mohsin Khan 4 (5b 1x4 0x6) SR: 80
Suryakumar Yadav is the new batter. Six runs come off the over in total.
MI 2/0 (1)
Marcus Stoinis will open the bowling for LSG. After a dot in the first ball, Stoinis bowls a wide off the second delivery. LSG wastes a review in trying to revise that call. Tight field to these openers and enough safeguards in fine leg and deep point to contain any shots that run away thanks to the pace of the ball. Just two runs from the over. Good start for the home side.
