Can MI defend 125?

IPL 2024: Lowest scores defended at Wankhede stadium in Indian Premier League

Here is a list of the lowest totals defended at the Wankhede Stadium in the IPL.

MI 125/9 in 20 Overs

What a show from Rajasthan Royals as Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal share six wickets among themselves but it was Boult who triggered the downfall by picking wickets up front. Nandre Burger picked up two wickets, and Avesh Khan snarred one, as Rajasthan needs 126 runs to win. Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma did manage to pull back things with a 56-run stand, but the fall of Hardik saw Rajasthan take charge of the game. Back for the chase in a bit. Should be an easy one, until and unless, Rajasthan decides to make heavy weather of chasing a small total.

MI 115/9 in 19 Overs

Yuzvendra Chahal has walked off the field, and Shivam Dubey has come in as the impact substitute. Nandre Burger picks up his second wicket as Trent Boult takes an excellent catch at deep backward square leg to pack off Tim David. Mumbai is nine down.

MI 114/8 in 18 Overs

Avesh Khan bowls a brilliant over and gives just two runs from his third over. Mumbai needs some fireworks as the total needs to be beefed up in the last two overs.

MI 112/8 in 17 Overs

Chahal with his spin, and he is liking what the red surface is offering as he picks his third wicket. Tossed up delivery, slower through the air, and Gerald Coetzee hits straight to Hetmyer at covers. This is absolutely brilliant bowling by the leg-spinner. A fantastic spell as he finishes with excellent figures of 4-0-11-3.

MI 111/7 in 16 Overs

Trent Boult finished his spell, and what a brilliant evening the fast bowler has had. He put Mumbai under pressure early, and his three-wicket haul gave Rajasthan control early in the innings. Boult finishes with wonderful figures of 4-0-22-3. Top spell!

MI 102/7 in 15 Overs

Can Mumbai bat out the full quota of 20 overs is what remains to be seen. Ashwin into his final over, and he, along with Chahal chained down the Mumbai batsmen. The 100 is up for Mumbai and with Tim David out in the middle, a score of 150 is something they would be targeting. Ashwin finishes his spell with figures of 4-0-27-0.

MI 97/7 in 14 Overs

There it is! Chahal strikes as Tilak Varma chases a wide delivery, and Ashwin takes a superb diving catch at short third man. Chahal picks up his second wicket, and Rajasthan will eye to quickly wrap up things. Mumbai is sinking fast at the Wankhede!

MI 95/6 in 13 Overs

Ashwin continues, and Rajasthan will be wary of the fact that they can’t relax and let Mumbai off the hook. With Tim David and a well-set Tilak Varma, Mumbai still has a chance to post a challenging total.

MI 89/6 in 12 Overs

What a sensational catch from Hetmyer! Avesh Khan strikes and he removes Piyush Chawla as the batsman tries to guide the ball over the backward point, but Hetmyer was sharp with his reflexes and took a brilliant catch at the backward point. Top catch and Mumbai are now six down! Finally, Tim David walks out..

MI vs RR, IPL 2024: R Ashwin becomes tenth player to play 200 matches in Indian Premier League

R. Ashwin became the tenth cricketer to play 200 IPL games during the Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals encounter at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

MI 83/5 in 11 Overs

Rajasthan chocking Mumbai with spin, and Ashwin, known for his brilliance in foxing the batsmen, has applied brakes on the Mumbai Express. Tilak holds the key for Mumbai but to promote Piyush Chawla ahead of Tim David is still surprising. Sanju Samson took a DRS review for a wide call, and he was right as the ball clipped the thigh pad of Tilak. Top over from Ashwin.

MI 77/5 in 10 Overs

Gone! Hardik Pandya falls as Chahal breaks the partnership with a slower, flatter delivery as the Mumbai skipper goes for a big hit only not to find the distance as Powell at the deep settles underneath the catch, and that’s a huge wicket. Surprisingly, Piyush Chawla walks in with Tim David in the sheds!

MI 75/4 in 9 Overs

Right then spin from both ends as R Ashwin, playing his 200th IPL match, comes into the attack. A run-out chance went begging as Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wide throw helped Hardik extend his stay at the crease, and the 50-run partnership is up.

MI 65/4 in 8 Overs

First signs of spin as Yuzvendra Chahal comes into the attack. Hardik Pandya is up and running as he slashes through the wide of the slip cordon, and the partnership is steadily growing. Decent start from Chahal.

MI 59/4 in 7 Overs

The first bowling change as Avesh Khan comes into the attack, and there is no stopping Tilak Varma as Avesh digs one short and the southpaw nails the pacer over the fine-leg to bring the 50-up for Mumbai. The recovery is on, and Hardik with a deft touch to the third man boundary, has been quietly playing a captain’s role.

MI 46/4 in 6 Overs

The PowerPlay belongs to Rajasthan as they have picked four wickets with Trent Boult taking three and Nandre Burger picking one. The introduction of Impact Player in Dewald Brevis failed to make an impact as Boult cut his innings short, and the onus is now on skipper Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma who have found some sort of momentum with an unbeaten 26-run stand.

MI 30/4 in 5 Overs

Tilak Varma continues to dazzle as he flicks Trent Boult for a maximum over the deep fine leg - a rare loose delivery from the New Zealander - and then pockets a couple to keep the scorecard ticking. An opportunity was there for Rajasthan to leave Mumbai five down, but Yuzvendra Chahal failed to latch on to a touch catch at mid-wicket as Tilak survived.

MI 20/4 in 4 Overs

Nandre Burger strikes now as he removes Ishan Kishan with a peach of a delivery, and Mumbai are four down! A back of length delivery that had pace and bounce as the ball found the outside edge of Kishan and flew into the safe nest of Sanju Samson’s gloves. Mumbai in deep trouble, with captain Hardik Pandya waking in to bail his side out of trouble.

MI 16/3 in 3 Overs

Boult strikes, and he picks his third, although he misses his hat-trick. The impact player is gone as Brevis hits straight to Burger at short third man, and this is excellent field placement from Sanju Samson. Top stuff from Rajasthan and this is a horrible start from Mumbai Indians. The dug-out is in a bit of panic as Tilak Varma comes out to bat.

MI 13/2 in 2 Overs

Ishan Kishan welcomes Nandre Burger with a huge maximum - a brilliant flick over the backward square leg for a maximum. The southpaw then goes for a wild pull and just gets a glove on the ball as it beats Sanju Samson and runs away for a boundary.

MI vs RR, IPL 2024: Rohit Sharma equals record for most ducks in Indian Premier League

Rohit Sharma equalled the record for most ducks in the IPL during the match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

MI 1/2 in 1 Over

Trent Boult removes Rohit Sharma for a duck as the former Mumbai skipper departs in his very first ball he has faced. Angled away and Rohit tentatively pokes at it, the ball takes the outside edge, and Sanju Samson dives to his right to take an excellent catch. Boult then trapped Naman Dhir to position himself for a hat-trick. The batsman did review but the on-field umpire’s call stayed. Dewals Brevis, the Impact Player sub walks in.
