West Ham United have said that their striker Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower-limb fracture following a road traffic accident in Essex on Saturday.

A club statement reads: "Everyone at the Club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday’s news, as well as extending a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery."

West Ham say Antonio will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days and that they will provide further updates when appropriate.

The club confirmed the news on Saturday and said that Antonio is "in a stable condition".

Antonio, who started his career in non-league football, has made 268 Premier League appearances for West Ham, scoring 68 goals, since joining in 2015 from Nottingham Forest.

The thoughts of everyone at the Premier League are with Antonio, the club, his family and friends.

West Ham are next in action on Monday evening when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers.
