As the conflict between Nayanthara and Dhanush over the use of BTS material, videos, and songs from the superhit film ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhan’, in the documentary ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale’, is getting much traction online, let’s take a throwback look at when the actress hailed as the ‘Lady Superstar’, recalled Vignesh Shivan’s directorial as something that came to bless her life.
During the 9th anniversary of the romantic entertainer, Nayanthara shared a special collage glimpse of ‘
Naanum Rowdy Dhaan
’ and penned an Instagram note that read, “A film that came to bless my life and change it forever. 9 years ago on this day, Naanum Rowdy Dhan released..”

She further wrote that the movie gave her new lessons as a performer and also gave her new experiences. Nayanthara’s note further reads, “Forever grateful to it for giving me a new love from people. new lessons as a performer, new experiences, new core memories, and new relationships. And of course have to thank my man @wikkiofficial for giving me NRD which gave me him. Sharing a collection of images that I've been carrying in my phone along with me all these years that constantly remind me of my special film #NaanumRowdyDhan #NRD #9years #Oct21 #Grateful.”
‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ had already been in controversy earlier as Dhanush was reportedly irked by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan’s budding romance during the sets of the film. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, trade analyst Ramesh Bala said, “Towards the end of the shooting, he (Dhanush) did not provide the finances to complete the film. Nayanthara spent her own money to complete the film for the love of her life, Vignesh Shivan.” He also revealed to us that the movie’s budget went beyond as planned.
Later in an award event, Nayanthara publicly taunted Dhanush by saying that the producer of ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ absolutely ‘hated’ her performance in the movie and she sarcastically said that she would try to improve in her next movies. Dhanush who was present during the event, can be seen visibly hiding his emotions. Fast forwarding to the present, ‘Njanum Rowdy Dhaan’ has again made headlines as Nayanthara wanted to use the behind-the-scenes moments from the film in the documentary ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale’. Dhanush refused to give an NOC on the same.As Dhanush didn’t grant NOC, the makers of the documentary had to change the title and later they used footage from the movie sets which was shot on Nayanthara’s mobile phone. Dhanush later filed a suit for the usage of a three-second clip in the documentary, demanding Rs 10 crores. Nayanthara vented her anger on social media by penning down an open letter that read, “Dear Mr. Dhanush K Raja, S/o Kasthoori Raja, B/o Selvaraghavan This is an open letter to you in order to set several wrong things right. A well-established actor like you, with the support and blessings of your father and your brother, an ace director, needs to read and understand this. Cinema as we all know is a fight for survival for people like me: a self-made woman with no links in the industry and someone who had to struggle my way to the position I hold today. I'd owe this to my work ethic that is no secret to all who know me but more importantly, to the goodwill of the audience and my film fraternity. The release of my
Netflix documentary
has been much awaited by not just me but so many of my fans and well wishers. It took a whole team of collaborators and film friends to pull together the project through all the difficulties that were thrown at us.”She further wrote, “The vengeance that you have been festering against the film, my partner and I, doesn't just affect us but the people who have given their effort and time towards this project. This NetFlix documentary about me, my life, my love and marriage includes clips of many of my industry well-wishers who have graciously contributed and memories from multiple films, but sadly does not include the most special and important film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. After two long years of battling it out with you for an NOC (No Objection Certificate) and waiting for your approval for our NetFlix documentary release, we finally decided to give up, re-edit and settle for the current version since you declined to permit the usage of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan songs or visual cuts, even the photographs to say the least despite multiple requests.”Nayanthara further wrote that the songs of ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ were appreciated by the audiences due to their emotional lyrics and they used the same in the documentary as they were aware that no other music would suit. Nayanthara ended the note by saying, “I suggest you also watch it and maybe it might change your mind. It is important to #SpreadLove and I hope and pray that someday you are also fully capable of doing it and not just saying it.”Starring Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ is a comedy, action film that revolves around a wannabe rowdy who accepts a shocking request from a girl whom he loves.
