IND 56/1 in 14 overs
Smriti pulls it to deep mid wicket for a single. Four for Yastika. Steps out and goes inside out over extra cover. Takes another single. Carson gives away six runs.
Smriti-Yastika partnership!
12, 5, 16. That is how big the opening partnership for India has been in this series. But Smriti Mandhana and Yaskita Bhatia are trying to ensure that the chase is back on track after the early loss of Shafali Verma. The two left-handers are striking the ball nicely, but they need to make this attractive partnership count.
-P. K. Ajith
IND 50/2 in 13 overs

Yastika Bhatita is the new batter in.
IND 14/0 in 3 overs

IND 5/0 in 1 over
Shafali and Smriti to start the chase for India. Tahuhu with the ball. Smriti off the mark with a single. Shafali uses the face of the bat to take it past point for a FOUR. Five off the first over.
Can India pull off the chase?
The White Ferns should not be too unhappy with that score, especially considering where they were when half the side was back in the dressing room. They were shepherded by Brooke Halliday, who made her maiden half-century against India a memorable one.
The Indians need their own Halliday if they want to pull off the chase and thus win the series.
-P.K. Ajith
NZ 232 all out in 49.5 overs
Saima Thakor to bowl the last over of the innings. Jonas takes a single in the second delivery, giving the strike to Tahuhu. Saima to Tahuhu, FOUR! NZ 226/9 in 49 overs
Renuka with her last over of the spell. Renuka to Eden Carson, OUT! NZ is falling like a pack of cards now. Full, in the slot for the batter and lofts it at mid-wicket and finds Radha Yadav there.
Eden Carson c Radha Yadav b Renuka Singh 2(3)
Renuka to Tahuhu, SIX! She finds a proper connection, straight over the bowler’s head.
NZ 216/8 in 48 overs
Deepti strikes again! She traps Hannan Rowe in front for LBW and NZ 8 down now. Lea Tahuhu slog sweeps to find the vacant space at deep mid-wicket. 8 off the over.
NZ 200/7 in 46 overs
A small water break for both teams where Halliday has been getting some medical attention. By the looks of it, it seems she has been dehydrated. She is down but still going! She slog sweeps Deepti for a SIX over deep mid-wicket. OUT next ball! The exhaustion finally caught her. Another shot in the same direction but was inside the fence and Radha Yadav takes it.
Halliday c Radha Yadav b Deepti Sharma 86(96)
Halliday’s fighting knock of 89 comes to an end. Lea Tahuhu is the new batter in the middle. She gets off the mark with a single which also brings 200 up for New Zealand.
NZ 193/6 in 45 overs
Renuka Singh is in the attack for Harmanpreet Kaur. A reverse sweep this time fetches her another FOURat deep backward point. This has been a brilliant effort from her to take NZ to a competitive total. Seven from this over.
NZ 186/6 in 44 overs
Saima Thakor in the attack. Halliday hits her for two consecutive FOURS! 10 off the over.
NZ 176/6 in 43 overs
Halliday is switching gears on time. She goes for a lofted shot over deep mid-wicket for a SIX. Then comes a sweep for a FOUR at short fine as she moves to 65. New Zealand is closing in on 200.
NZ’s backbone - Brooke Halliday
She played a crucial innings for New Zealand against South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup in Dubai recently. That proved crucial as the White Ferns went on to win their first World Cup in the shortest format. Brooke Halliday is playing another superb innings for her team, in this the third and deciding match of the ODI series in India. She is batting sensibly and responsibly; she knows she has to bat through the New Zealand innings. The Indians know that won’t be good news for them.
-P.K. Ajith
NZ 156/6 in 40 overs
Priya Mishra with her last over of the spell. Halliday takes a single off the penultimate ball to reach her maiden half-century against India. Priya ends with 10-1-41-2.

NZ 143/5 in 37 overs
Deepti Sharma in place of Renuka Thakur. Just one off her over.
NZ 142/5 in 36 overs
Harmanpreet Kaur continues. From around the wicket, huge appeal for LBW. Halliday plays a sweep close to the body and the ball seems to have hit the pads first. India takes a review but there was an inside edge off the gloves. Five singles and a couple fetch NZ seven off the over. The 50-run stand also up between Halliday and Gaze.
NZ 133/5 in 35 overs
The partnership between Isabella Gaze and Halliday is closing in on the 50-run mark. NZ is staging a strong comeback. 17 in the last three overs.
India on top
The White Ferns are in the process of rebuilding their innings, which was in tatters when a terrible mix-up saw Maddy Green getting run out. They were 88 for five at that stage, and Green had been batting well. It is now up to her partner at the time, Brooke Halliday, to steady the ship. She should stay there for a while more for her side to make a reasonable total. Wicket-keeper Isabella Gaze is giving her adequate support.
-P.K. Ajith
NZ 118/5 in 32 overs
Harmanpreet Kaur with her third over. She gives just four from her over.
NZ 112/5 in 31 overs

NZ 99/5 in 27 overs
Priya bowls to Gaze who is yet to get off the mark. Looks like Radha Yadav is back on the field. She hits it square to take a single. Anothe run and Gaze on strike. Priya still getting some spin, forcing Gaze to adjust to the ball coming on the body. Four runs off the over.
NZ 95/5 in 26 overs
Saima. Halliday guides it to deep mid-wicket for two runs. Ends the over with a four. Struck straight down. That seemed to get away from anyone looking to stop it. Six off the over.
NZ 89/5 in 25 overs
Deepti continues. Only one run off the over.
Half-way mark of the first inning. Clearly has gone India’s way by not letting any batter settle. Plimmer was the only one to get going but NZ down five wickets with not much on the scoreboard.
NZ 88/5 in 24 overs
Saima into the attack. Major confusion! Both batters stranded in the middle. And that is another run-out! New batter in is Izzy Gaze.

Deepti brought back. Four for Green. Skips down the track and lifts it over mid-on to the ropes. A few singles and a dot to end the over.
NZ 81/4 in 22 overs
Radha again. That was an off-delivery. Called wide as it goes well down leg. Another wide. Radha seems to be feeling some discomfort in her left hand. Her elbow had been taped up. Four runs off the over.
She has exited the field for what looks like a break.
NZ 77/4 in 21 overs
Priya. Slip is still in place. Green cuts it in the gap to the ropes. Great footwork to adjust to the lengthy deliveries. A four for NZ after quite a gap. Six runs off the over.
NZ 71/4 in 20 overs
Radha Yadav continues. Green gets a couple to get off the mark. Not much happening at the middle as just five come from this over. NZ is scoring at 3.5 r.p.o.
Bowlers rule the roost
For the first time in the series, the opening 15 overs haven’t belonged to the batting side in the first innings. In the first two matches, the teams were scoring around six an over, but not in this match: the run-rate is about half of that. Then Indians must be really pleased to have contained New Zealand. Even more pleased to have seen Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine back in the dressing room.
-P.K. Ajith
NZ 66/4 in 19 overs
Priya continues. Priya to Plimmer, OUT! Another googly from Priya, keeps it straight and finds an outside edge, straight to Deepti Sharma at slips who completes a clean catch.
Plimmer c Deepti Sharma b Priya Mishra 39(67)
Maddy Green is the new batter in. 2 off the over.

NZ 46/3 in 15 overs
A second maiden over on the bounce. Priya Mishra is the bowler this time.
Time for drinks break.
NZ 46/3 in 14 overs
A quiet over from Deepti. Maiden, it is.
NZ 46/3 in 13 overs
Priya Mishra from the other end. Priya to Plimmer, FOUR! Short and width on offer, Plimmer pounces on it to hit it over mid-off. Five off the over.
Big fish for Priya Mishra
Priya Mishra is going to replay on her phone that ball over and over, and over. Who can blame her? How often would you get to cleanbowl one of the all-time greats in women’s cricket? The 20-year-old leg-spinner is proving quite a find for India. In only her second international game, she has removed Sophie Devine, one of women’s cricket’s most feared batters, with a googly.
And New Zealand isn’t sitting pretty, having lost three early wickets. Georgia Plimmer is still there, though.
-P.K. Ajith Kumar
NZ 41/3 in 12 overs
Deepti Sharma is in the attack from the other end. She replaces Saima Thakor. Deepti to Halliday, FOUR! Lovely shot from Halliday to get off the mark. Pitched up, and driven with authority.
NZ 36/3 in 11 overs
Priya Mishra replaces Saima Thakor. Priya to Devine, OUT! Big wicket for the leg-spinner. who deceives Devine with a googly. The ball pitched up, kept straight and crashed onto the stumps for New Zealand’s third wicket.
Devine b Priya Mishra 9(11)

Scenes from Ahmedabad
Our reporter on the ground, P. K. Ajith Kumar, spotted a crowd outside the venue ahead of the match.
NZ 35/2 in 10 overs
Saima continues. Devine, playing her 150th ODI, is standing out of the crease to maybe take the ball early. But she hasn’t been able to connect. Gets it right this time and that’s FOUR. Devine times it perfectly and punches it past point to the ropes.
NZ 31/2 in 9 overs
Renuka continues. Short mid-on in place next to the non-striker’s end. Fuller on the length and Plimmer isn’t able to put it away. Tries to take it past backward point but Radha Yadav there. She isn’t letting that through. Maiden over.
NZ 31/2 in 8 overs
Caught behind! Down gets a edge off Saima’s delivery that goes straight to the keeper. Quick wickets fall for NZ but it is the star skipper Devine who walks in. Gets off the mark immediately with a straight drive to the ropes. Six runs off the over.
Update from the ground
It is early overs yet, but Georiga Plimmer is looking good. The young opener has played a couple of lovely straight drives, off Renuka Singh Thakur and then off the other Thakur with the new ball – though Saima’s second name is spelled Thakor. But her opening partner is gone, though: Suzie Bates is run out.
-P. K. Ajith Kumar
NZ 25/1 in 7 overs
Renuka. OUT! Back-to-back run-out attempts and the second one works. NZ loses Bates early. In comes Down. Just two runs off the over and a huge wicket for India.
Suzie Bates run out (Rodrigues/†Bhatia) 4 (14)
NZ 23/0 in 6 overs
Bates on strike. Saima continues. To deep backward square leg for a single. Plimmer at it. A straight drive that beats the fielders and bowler to the ropes. Misfield! Goes through the diving fielder to the boundary rope.
NZ 14/0 in 5 overs
First boundary for NZ. Plimmer hits it straight down the ground where India had no protection. Runs away to the covers. Straight again but too straight. Into the stumps but Bates was in. Another four! Plimmer has found some form now. Punches it through the gap to deep cover fence.
NZ 6/0 in 4 overs
Saima. Plimmer still struggling, not getting it off the middle of the bat. Meanwhile, India has upped its fielding game. Sneaks a quick single off the final ball. Bates had to dive again but wasn’t in danger.
NZ 5/0 in 3 overs
Renuka continues. Wide in the second ball and they take a single. Great fielding by Jemimah to prevent it from going to the ropes. Wicketkeeper had to work hard to hit the stumps after a poor throw. Bates was within the crease by then. Safe.
Update from the ground
Hello. It is another hot afternoon here in Ahmedabad, but there are a lot of people outside the main gate of the stadium, queuing up to get in to watch the third and deciding ODI between India and New Zealand, which won the T20 World Cup in Dubai just over a week ago.
Sophie Devine won the toss and has gladly chosen to bat first. In the two games of the series, the team that batted first won.
-P. K. Ajith Kumar
NZ 2/0 in 2 overs
Saima with the ball. India keeping a tight field to not leak any runs. A direct throw but the batter is safe. Just one run off the over.
NZ 1/0 in 1 over
Renuka to start things for India. Bates and Plimmer at the crease. Dot followed by an edge! If another slip was there, Bates could have been caught. First run and Plimmer on strike now. Plimmer not looking very comfortable as yet. Hit on the pad but India wasn’t interested to take a review.
Pitch report
Pitch is hard and dry, it’s 100% red soil. There will be some extra bounce. Spinners have dominated in the first two games. The batting side with the better power hitting and shot selection is likelier to win. - WV Raman

Radha Yadav was many women on Sunday.
She was a ‘Superwoman’ who flew like a bird to pluck unbelievable catches. She was a spinner who dismissed key batters and finished her spell with four wickets.
She has been playing those roles with aplomb for India for some time now. But she isn’t used to playing her team’s longest innings.
She came in at No. 9, with India reeling at 102 of seven, chasing 260 against New Zealand in the second ODI. She was the last woman out for 48, as India crashed to a 76-run defeat. Nobody else reached 30.
