Marcus Rashford caught the eyes of the fans after he celebrated by putting his finger on his head as he continued his rich run of form for Manchester United in the club's 3-0 win away to Nottingham Forest.

The forward netted as United took full control in the Carabao Cup semi-final clash, with Rashford turning to his increasingly familiar celebration after notching the club's first goal.

Wout Weghorst, meanwhile, scored his first for the club to put United 2-0 up, before Bruno Fernandes netted the third to give the side a convincing lead heading into the second leg at Old Trafford.

The two clubs meet again next week for a place in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

After scoring United's first, many were quick to point out Rashford's celebration, theorising exactly what it could mean.

Sportsmail breaks down what Rashford's celebration actually means below.

In the showdown with Forest, Rashford can be seen celebrating by standing still, closing his eyes and pointing to his temple with his finger.

Rashford has been using this celebration frequently since returning from the World Cup, in which time he has scored 10 goals in as many games, taking his tally to 18 for the season.

The 25-year-old has not yet revealed what the celebration means, but many believe it is linked to his clearer mental state having endured a difficult period over the last year.

'I was struggling at times with more mental things,' Rashford told Sky Sports after scoring United's winner against West Ham.

'It wasn't really my own performance but other things off the pitch. That's the biggest difference from last season.

'Too often last season, I wasn't in the right headspace for games. I wasn't surprised by some of the stuff that was happening'.

Premier League fans across the nation have now seen the forward repeat the same celebration on multiple occasions this season.

However, there were a few quick to point out the fact that he may have pinched the celebration from someone else.

Have we seen this celebration before?

Fans of Championship side Hull are quick to point out the fact that Rashford may have taken inspiration from one of their players.

Colombian international, Oscar Estupinan, has been in incredible form for Hull City so far since his arrival.

The forward has celebrated all of his 12 goals in the league this season by putting his finger on his head since the start of August.

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka also pointed to his head after scoring against United in the Premier League last weekend, while Newcastle midfielder Joelinton celebrated in a similar fashion as Newcastle beat Southampton in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final this week.

Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich celebrated similarly after netting against Cologne, while Chesterfield's Armando Dobra copied Rashford's celebration during a 3-3 draw with West Brom in the FA Cup.

In cricket, England bowler Jofra Archer put his finger to his head and closed his eyes after taking a wicket in South Africa's SA20 competition.

When is Rashford next in action?

After netting yet again for his side in the showdown against Forest, fans will be eager to catch a glimpse of the forward again in action.

With the FA Cup back on this weekend, Manchester United are still in the competition.

The two sides will meet again next weekend for a place in the Carabao Cup final

The side are due to host Championship side Reading at Old Trafford this Saturday at 8pm.

Despite playing in midweek, many will be hoping that Rashford will start from the off in the FA Cup showdown this weekend.
