The big day has arrived. After months of anticipation, this Wednesday evening the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will launch eleven days of competition at the French capital's most iconic venues. "My staff have been telling me for some time that there were going to be some surprises during the ceremony. I chose not to listen to them so that I could enjoy it to the full! I can't wait to find out all about it", said Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee, at a press conference a few hours ago.

While some surprises are indeed expected, what is certain is that a long section will be reserved for the parade of delegations. As with every edition of the Paralympic Games, the names of the flagbearers are being closely scrutinised. For France, the host country, Nantenin Keïta (Para athletics) and Alexis Hanquinquant (Para triathlon) have been chosen. As tradition dictates, they will be the last to enter the arena.

Before that, Ebrahim Danishi from Afghanistan (Para taekwondo) will have opened the ball. The various NPCs will then take to the stage in alphabetical order.

Germany will be represented by Edina Müller (Para canoe) and Martin Schulz (Para triathlon), Australia by Madison De Rozario (Para athletics) and Brenden Hall (Para swimming), Great Britain by Terry Bywater (Wheelchair basketball) and Lucy Shuker (Wheelchair tennis), the Paralympic Refugee Team by Guillaume Junior Atangana (Para athletics), Switzerland by Marcel Hug (Para athletics) and Elena Kratter (Para athletics), New Zealand by Anna Grimaldi (Para athletics) and Cameron Leslie (Para swimming) and the United States by Nicky Nieves (Sitting volleyball) and Steve Serio (Wheelchair basketball).
