TWO radio presenters from two different community radio stations in Mthatha and Ngcobo will join Umhlobo Wenene FM on April 1.

These presenters are Sisa Maxhakana, from Ingwane FM in Mthatha, and Okuhle Krezile, from Engcobo Community Radio in Ngcobo. Both are former presenters of Unitra Community Radio (UCR FM), which is also based in Mthatha.

Maxhakana resides at Emasameni locality in Libode. Talking to Express, Maxhakana said that he had hosted a breakfast show for a long time at UCR FM, but left when he was doing the same programme on Saturdays only, in August 2016. He joined Ingwane FM on January 20, 2023, where he was hosting the Masivukeni mawethu programme from 03:00 until 06:00 on Fridays.

“I will be doing the Ezolimo show at Umhlobo Wenene FM as from April 1. My show will start at 04:30 to 05:00 on Saturdays. I have tried several times to join this national radio, to the extent that I gave up because I was not succeeding. I was inspired by motivational speaker, Pastor Lusindiso Malimba, who said I must not throw in the towel,” said Maxhakana.

Maxhakana thanked the management of both radio community radio stations who gave him the opportunity to do what he liked.

“I thank Ngwane FM because they opened the door for me. I am still shocked and I do not believe that really it is happening.”

On the other side, Krezile from Gqubeni locality in Mqanduli said that he was still shocked about this news. Krezile will be doing the sports bulletin in the show called lavuth’ibhayi that is hosted by Monwabisi Mbangi, known as Gudlabatshakazi, from 07:00 to 10:00 on Saturdays.

Krezile said hat he had worked in community radio stations for seven years now.

“I started at UCR FM in 2016, doing sports bulletins in the breakfast show. I was doing the sports show from 15:00 to 18:00 on Saturdays, then on Wednesdays my show started at 17:00 to 18:00. I then joined Engcobo Community Radio in October, last year,” said Krezile.

He confirmed that he was also doing the sport bulletin on the breakfast show and also in the afternoon from 18:00 to 19:00 in the sports show. He said he was very happy about the opportunity he was granted.

“I always told myself that one day I would be on national radio, and that community radios were my steps to go up. What I can say to young people is they must focus on their dreams.”
