Enzo Maresca has issued a stark warning to Raheem Sterling and other Chelsea first-team players currently out of favor, making it clear that they won’t see game time under his management if they remain at the club after Friday’s transfer deadline.

Sterling, who has been training separately from the main squad at Cobham, tops a growing list of players sidelined by Maresca. His situation became even more apparent after he lost his squad number to new summer signing Pedro Neto. Another notable name on the list is Ben Chilwell, who served as Chelsea’s vice-captain last season. Chilwell, like Sterling, has been advised to find a new club before the transfer window closes.

Maresca emphasized that any player who doesn’t secure a move away from Stamford Bridge this week will likely face a lengthy spell on the bench, with little chance of playing until the January transfer window opens.

“We’re gonna see. I prefer to be honest with the players, and with Raheem I have been exactly the same."

“The ones who are not involved are not going to be involved, and they are not going to get any minutes in case they stay."

“I don’t know what happens when the transfer window closes. We’ll see who is here and who is not here. The only thing I can say is the ones who are going to get minutes are the ones I feel can help us,” said Maresca.

“It’s not just for Raheem. It’s for all the players that are training apart in this moment. When the transfer window closes they are not going to get minutes. I’ve been clear and honest with them, so this is the reason why.”

Sterling not the type of winger I like

When quizzed about Sterling, Maresca said that the forward is a fantastic person but not the type of winger he wants to have in his side.

"I said already many times, he is a fantastic person," Maresca said when quizzed about Sterling.

"The only thing is that every manager has a different idea. He is not the type of winger I like. That says nothing about Raheem. The history and the numbers speak for Raheem."

Chelsea will be facing Crystal Palace on September 1, Sunday at home in the Premier League.
