Star India all rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has revealed that he draws inspiration from Ravindra Jadeja’s batting. Notably, both Ashwin and Jadeja rescued India during the first innings of the ongoing Test against Bangladesh as they got involved in a massive 199-run stand for the seventh wicket.

Ashwin went on to score his sixth Test century playing a brilliant knock of 113 (133). On the other hand, Jadeja scored 86 (124) as the duo helped India reach a respectable score of 376 after they were left tottering at 144/6. Opening on their special partnership, Ashwin hailed Jadeja’ batting prowess mentioning his terrific first class record where he’s scored three triple hundreds.

“Jaddu’s (Ravindra Jadeja) batting in itself has been an inspiration for me over the years. The way he’s settled his game and how he’s been able to be consistent, what good plans he has, that has been an inspiration. He’s always been a great batter, he’s scored triple hundreds in first class cricket but it’s going to be very hard for me to replicate but nevertheless that’s what true sense of how I can try,” said Ashwin in a video released by the BCCI.

Further speaking ahead, Ashwin also revealed that his father, who was in attendance during his innings on Day 1, praised him for his magnificent knock. The 38-year-old also mentioned that he was in the zone during his batting and his achievement only sunk in after he went back into the pavilion.

“My Dad was so happy yesterday. I don’t know for what he was happy but he was extremely happy. He said that’s one of the better knocks I’ve seen you bat and all that. To me it didn’t sink it until I went back and watched some of the video footages. It didn’t sink in. It was a classic case of me staying in the moment and completely being in the zone, I think. There have been a few occasions in the last 101 Test matches where I’ve found myself in such zones,” he added.

Meanwhile, India are leading by 308 runs in the second innings after bundling out Bangladesh for 149. Jadeja picked up 2/19 while Jasprit Bumrah also starred with the ball for India with figures of 4/50. India will resume their innings on 81/3 on Day 3 with Shubman Gill (33*) and Rishabh Pant (12*) at the crease.
